Job description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Cloud Engineer to join our Technology Infrastructure team. You will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and management of cloud infrastructure within Amazon Web Services (AWS), working closely with infrastructure, security, and application development teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure solutions. A key focus of the role is supporting the migration of existing on-premise Windows Server workloads and associated enterprise applications into AWS. You'll contribute to cloud architecture decisions, embed best practice operations (automation, monitoring, governance), and ensure environments are robust, secure, well documented, and cost optimised.
This position offers broad exposure to modern cloud technologies and the chance to help drive our cloud adoption strategy while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to meet operational and strategic goals., * Support the assessment, planning, and execution of migrations for on prem Windows Server workloads into AWS.
- Provide expert-level support and troubleshooting for network, server, and cloud infrastructure issues.
- Embed security by design and contribute to governance using Organisations/Control Tower, guardrails, and tagging standards.
- To gain an in-depth knowledge of the organisation's key systems to provide third line support for problems arising on these systems and undertaking fault rectification.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting; perform capacity, FinOps cost optimisation, performance tuning, and right sizing.
- Produce clear architecture documentation, runbooks, diagrams, and standards; contribute to knowledge sharing and mentoring.
- To be responsible for the escalation and management of calls with 3rd party FM/support contracts.
- To project manage and complete projects for example technical role outs, new branch openings, acquisition tasks etc, on budget, on time and in accordance with the department's SLA.
- Drive infrastructure automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Work closely with infrastructure, development and data team members, ensuring good cross team collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with security leading practices and industry standards.
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis for critical infrastructure issues.
- Provide accurate, timely reporting and/or documentation to team members of progress and problems.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to infrastructure strategy.
Requirements
- Demonstrable expertise in designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based IT infrastructure
- Strong technical troubleshooting and communication skills
- Proficiency in networking, virtualisation and storage solutions is essential
- Technical skills with AWS and knowledge of Microsoft products such as M365 and server operating systems
- Certifications such as AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer/AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CCNA or Microsoft Azure Administrator would be advantageous.

AWS Cloud Services:
- Strong hands-on knowledge of EC2
- VPC (subnets, routing, security groups, NACLs)
- IAM (roles/policies)
- S3/FSx EBS, RDS/Aurora,
- Route 53, CloudWatch/CloudTrail
- Systems Manager, Backup
Operating Systems:
- Windows 10/11, Linux, Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
- Active Directory (AD) management, Group Policy
- Understanding of VMWare vSphere Hypervisor and VMWare Horizon VDI infrastructure
- Mobile device management (MDM) - iOS & Android
Microsoft 365 & Cloud Services:
- Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Power Platform)
- Entra ID - user & identity management, MFA, SSO
- Microsoft Intune - endpoint management & device compliance
- Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Office 365
- Knowledge of Azure Virtual Machines & cloud networking
- Knowledge of AWS EC2, AWS Workspaces, S3
Networking & Security:
- Networking, (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs)
- VPN setup and troubleshooting
- Firewall configurations (Fortinet, Cisco.)
- Wi-Fi troubleshooting and access point management (Aruba)
- Endpoint security - antivirus, EDR and encryption technologies (Trend Micro, Sophos)

- Cybersecurity best practices (CES+)
