The Sr. Identity and Access Management Engineer will lead the design and implementation of improvements to system access onboarding and offboarding processes as part of a strategic cybersecurity program. This role focuses on building robust, scalable identity lifecycle management capabilities, with a strong emphasis on Okta, automation, and cross-functional collaboration with legal, HR, IT, and business stakeholders., * Design, implement, and optimize end-to-end identity and access management (IAM) processes, with a primary focus on onboarding and offboarding of users.
- Own IAM initiatives from strategy through production, translating high-level objectives into detailed technical designs and working solutions.
- Develop and refine identity lifecycle management workflows, including how access is requested, approved, provisioned, governed, and revoked.
- Configure and manage Okta, including Workflows, directory configuration, and multi-factor authentication (MFA) policies to support secure access control.
- Build and maintain automations and controls that make IAM processes repeatable, auditable, and scalable across the organization.
- Coordinate and support identity-related migrations across platforms such as GitLab, Atlassian, Slack, and Microsoft 365, ensuring minimal disruption to users.
- Analyze and anticipate downstream impacts of identity and access changes before implementation, mitigating risks and preventing issues.
- Collaborate closely with legal, HR, IT, and business teams to understand requirements, surface issues early, and drive decisions that balance security, usability, and compliance.
- Use tools such as Jira as workflow and approval systems to support IAM-related requests and processes, where applicable.
- Create clear, comprehensive documentation for IAM strategy, architecture, detailed requirements, and operational procedures.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout the engagement.
Requirements
- Proven, hands-on experience designing and implementing IAM programs from strategy through production, not just providing advisory input.
- Deep understanding of identity lifecycle management, including access request, approval, provisioning, governance, and revocation processes.
- Strong practical experience with Okta, including Okta Workflows, directory configuration, and MFA policy configuration and management.

- Demonstrated ability to build automations and controls that support scalable and repeatable IAM processes.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple platforms and environments, including GitLab, Atlassian, Slack, and Microsoft 365.

- Ability to identify and articulate issues early, and to drive decisions and consensus without creating unnecessary friction.
- Strong documentation skills, with the ability to fully document IAM strategy, detailed requirements, and processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with Jira as a workflow and approval system for managing IAM-related requests and processes is a strong plus.
- Experience coordinating complex identity migrations that span multiple tools and business functions.
- Ability to think strategically about the long-term implications of identity and access decisions on security, compliance, and user experience.
- Comfort working as a contractor or consultant, taking ownership of deliverables and outcomes within a defined engagement.
Benefits & conditions
This role operates in a hybrid work environment, with onsite presence typically required 1-2 days per week, usually on Wednesdays or Thursdays. The position is embedded within a cybersecurity and InfoSec team and involves regular collaboration with legal, HR, IT, and business stakeholders. Work will primarily be performed using modern collaboration and development platforms such as GitLab, Atlassian tools, Slack, Microsoft 365, Okta, and Jira, with a strong emphasis on secure, efficient, and well-documented processes. The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.
