Job description
We are seeking an experienced Pega Application Engineer to support configuration, implementation, enhancement, and sustainment of an enterprise Pega-based SaaS solution within the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role performs hands-on Pega configuration, workflow implementation, low-code/no-code tailoring, defect remediation, sprint delivery, and operational sustainment support for a mission-focused PPBE, financial management, acquisition, reporting, and workflow modernization program. The Pega Application Engineer works closely with the Pega Lead System Architect, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, data/integration engineers, testers, release managers, and platform administrators to deliver secure, traceable, tested, and maintainable system capabilities in an Agile environment., * Configure and implement Pega application functionality aligned to approved requirements, user stories, workflow designs, and solution architecture.

Develop and maintain case types, workflows, business rules, decision logic, forms, dashboards, reports, access controls, and user-facing configuration components.

Support sprint execution by estimating work, completing assigned backlog items, participating in Agile ceremonies, and demonstrating completed functionality.

Implement configuration changes and limited customizations while preserving upgrade paths, modularity, auditability, and alignment with architecture guardrails.

Support PPBE, budget, acquisition, approval, reporting, and workflow capabilities through disciplined Pega configuration and implementation.

Collaborate with business analysts and Product Owners to clarify requirements, acceptance criteria, workflow logic, and implementation constraints.

Work with data/integration resources to support interface-related configuration, data validation, transformation logic, and system behavior related to data flows.

Support defect triage, root cause analysis, defect remediation, regression testing, and production issue resolution.

Coordinate with test teams to clarify expected functionality, support test case development, resolve defects, and validate fixes.

Participate in release planning, deployment coordination, configuration management, and change control processes.

Maintain technical documentation, configuration notes, implementation artifacts, and knowledge transfer materials in approved repositories.

Support O&M activities, including minor enhancements, production fixes, workflow updates, and sustainment configuration.

Follow secure coding/configuration practices, version control procedures, and federal IT delivery expectations.
Requirements

5+ years of progressive experience in Pega application development, Pega configuration, low-code/no-code implementation, software development, or workflow/case management delivery.

Hands-on experience configuring Pega applications, case types, workflows, rules, UI components, data objects, reports, integrations, or security/access settings.

Experience working in Agile delivery environments with user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and defect resolution.

Familiarity with Pega implementation best practices, reuse, guardrails, modular configuration, versioning, and release discipline.

Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into maintainable Pega configuration and implementation tasks.

Experience supporting testing, defect triage, regression validation, and production issue resolution.

Familiarity with integration concepts, APIs, data mapping, role-based access control, audit logging, and enterprise application security.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively with architects, analysts, testers, administrators, release managers, and Government stakeholders.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document technical work clearly.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

Pega certification such as CSA or CSSA is valued; equivalent hands-on Pega implementation experience will also be considered.

Exposure to Federal, state, health, financial, or other regulated IT environments is beneficial; Department of Veterans Affairs experience is a plus but not required.

Familiarity with SaaS implementations, workflow modernization, case management, low-code/no-code platforms, or business process automation is valued.

Working knowledge of release management, configuration control, defect remediation, Agile delivery, or production sustainment is a plus.

Exposure to accessibility, cybersecurity, auditability, or compliance requirements in an enterprise application environment is beneficial.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
CLEARANCE:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
