Job description

We are seeking an experienced Pega Lead System Architect to support an enterprise SaaS modernization effort within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Pega Lead System Architect ensures that the configured solution is secure, scalable, modular, standards-based, maintainable, and aligned with VA enterprise architecture, security, data, accessibility, and operational requirements. This individual works closely with Government stakeholders, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Pega engineers, data/integration resources, testers, release managers, and platform administrators to establish architecture guardrails, guide configuration decisions, support Agile delivery, and maintain technical integrity across the system lifecycle., * Lead Pega architecture and solution design activities for an enterprise workflow and financial/acquisition modernization solution.

  • Define and maintain technical architecture, solution design, application structure, integration patterns, reusable components, and configuration guardrails.

  • Ensure Pega implementation activities align with approved architecture, enterprise standards, RBAC principles, auditability requirements, security controls, and sustainment needs.

  • Provide technical oversight for low-code/no-code configuration, workflow implementation, business rules, case management, dashboards, reporting, and modular customization.

  • Guide design decisions related to scalability, maintainability, extensibility, performance, accessibility, security, and operational readiness.

  • Support architecture artifacts such as system architecture design documents, solution design specifications, security architecture inputs, interface control documents, and modular customization frameworks.

  • Collaborate with data and integration resources to ensure data models, APIs, metadata, interface patterns, and migration approaches are consistent with the overall solution architecture.

  • Support AI/reporting enablement by helping define secure, governed, modular architecture patterns for report templates, output generation, data access, versioning, and human-in-the-loop controls.

  • Provide technical leadership during sprint planning, backlog refinement, design reviews, sprint demonstrations, release planning, and production readiness reviews.

  • Support test teams by clarifying expected system behavior, architecture dependencies, workflow logic, integration points, and defect remediation approaches.

  • Coordinate with configuration, change, and release management resources to protect baseline integrity, version control, and approved deployment patterns.

  • Support operational sustainment, production issue analysis, architecture-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.

  • Mentor technical team members and promote Pega delivery best practices, reusable design patterns, and disciplined technical execution.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in enterprise application architecture, Pega solution delivery, systems implementation, or workflow/case management modernization.

  • Demonstrated experience serving as a Pega Lead System Architect, Senior System Architect, or equivalent senior Pega technical role.

  • Strong understanding of Pega architecture, case management, workflow design, data modeling, integration patterns, rules, security, reporting, and deployment practices.

  • Experience designing scalable, modular, maintainable solutions in Agile delivery environments.

  • Experience translating business, functional, security, data, and operational requirements into sound technical architecture and implementation guidance.

  • Familiarity with RBAC, audit trails, configuration control, release governance, access control, data integrity, and compliance-driven system design.

  • Experience working with APIs, integrations, data exchange patterns, interface documentation, and enterprise system interoperability.

  • Ability to review technical designs, identify architecture risks, guide trade-off decisions, and support defect/root cause analysis.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical teams, business stakeholders, and Government customers.

  • Ability to work effectively across architecture, development, testing, data, release, security, and operations teams.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

  • Pega certification such as CSSA or CLSA is valued; equivalent hands-on Pega architecture experience will also be considered.

  • Exposure to Federal, state, health, financial, or other regulated environments is beneficial; Department of Veterans Affairs experience is a plus but not required.

  • Familiarity with enterprise SaaS, cloud authorization, security controls, accessibility, auditability, or compliance-driven architecture is beneficial.

  • Experience supporting financial management, acquisition, workflow, reporting, case management, or enterprise modernization solutions is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of data integration, API patterns, reporting frameworks, or AI-enabled workflow concepts is valued.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
