Job description
Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer -
Dig into grid stuff:
Run steady-state transmission studies using tools like TARA to figure out where the network might need upgrades-and come up with smart ways to avoid them, depending on what U.S. market you're in.
Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer -
All things modeling:
Build and tweak BESS models in PSLF, PSS/E, and PSCAD for load flow and dynamics. Simulate disturbances, fine-tune IBR performance, and make sure storage plants behave how the grid expects them to.
Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer -
Grid gatekeeping:
Handle generator interconnection submissions across ISOs and RTOs, sit in on scoping meetings, and manage back-and-forth with utilities and grid operators to push projects through.
Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer -
Tech translator:
Help other teams understand what interconnection means, what's missing (like reactive power), and how we can meet compliance and technical needs.
Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer -
Big-picture thinker:
Keep tabs on how transmission reliability holds up short- and long-term, look at what other utilities and grid operators are doing, and figure out how those moves might affect our projects.
Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer -
Find the best fit:
Scout cost-effective grid solutions, study system limits, and offer solid advice on how our BESS projects plug into various transmission and distribution setups-now and in the future.
Renewables Transmission & Interconnection Engineer -
Team with the system operators:
Align our plans with what ISOs and RTOs are planning, making sure we meet both current and evolving bulk power standards.
Requirements
School creds:
Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering is a must; Master's is even better-especially if you focused on Power and Energy Systems.
Been in the game:
1-5 years of hands-on experience in the power or energy world, with bonus points for time spent in renewables or working on complex electrical systems.
Power system chops:
You know your way around modeling, simulations, and running power flow studies.
TARA experience HIGHLY .
Other tools like PSCAD, PSLF, and PSSE will be considered.
Market savvy:
You're fluent in how markets like CAISO, PJM, SPP, MISO operate (beyond just ERCOT). That experience really shines when things get technical., You're great at influencing cross-functional teams and pulling people together-even across regions, time zones, and gaps.
Client-facing confidence:
Whether it's internal teams or external stakeholders, you're comfortable presenting, explaining studies, and driving home the message.
