Job description

The AI Application Developer will work within NWCAL to develop artificial intelligence and large language model implementations that will contribute to and further the state of the hardware and software assurance in support of the LANL weapons mission. Responsibilities in this position include the research and implementation of AI technologies as applied to hardware and software assurance for laboratory and manufacturing operational technology for the LANL weapons mission.

Requirements

Technical knowledge

  • Entry level knowledge and experience programming in Python with particular focus on AI packages such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch, TensorFlow and similar.
  • Entry level knowledge and experience utilizing GPUs for AI programming.
  • Entry level knowledge and experience developing and deploying AI-enabled applications including LLMs, RAG, and agentic workflows and tool-calling applied to mission problems.
  • Entry level knowledge and experience programming in a Linux environment using tools like Git and Gitlab for development and production environments.
  • Entry level knowledge and experience implementing CI/CD pipelines in a containerized environment.

Collaboration

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team working on assigned tasks, guided by more experienced team members.
  • Ability to foster strong relationships with customers, peers, and service providers.

Clearance

Ability to obtain a DOE-Q clearance is required.

Education/Experience : Position requires a bachelor's degree in a technical field and a minimum of 2 years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications :

  • Experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift environments
  • Knowledge and experience with the NNSA Nuclear Enterprise Assurance Program
  • Knowledge and experience of assessing the security of cyber-physical, ICS, or Operational Technology systems
  • Active DOE-Q clearance.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management., *Eligibility requirements : To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
