WebAssembly has become an important technology in web development, on the server and client side. In this session, we want to take a look behind the scenes and dive deeper into fundamentals like WebAssembly's stack-based programming model, memory management, and interaction with Wasm hosts. Based on samples in WAT (WebAssembly Text), Rust, and C, Rainer Stropek speaks about core principles of Wasm and WASI. Rainer will show examples in the browser and in WebAssembly hosts like Wasmtime and Wasmer.
Entrepreneur, speaker, mentor at CoderDojo Linz, teacher, developer, software architect. Passionate about Rust, .NET, Web Development, AI, Cloud Computing (in particular Azure), running, and mountain biking.
In the last year new frameworks arrived or gained some fame making use of the islands architecture, a paradigm that aims to reduce the volume of JavaScript shipped through "islands" of interactivity that can be independent delivered on top of otherwise static HTML. Many people started to confuse this pattern with micro frontends - which is all about scaling development of a web application. Now, we have two patterns - one to scale the performance of a website and another one to scale the development. It turns out - they are not mutually exclusive.
In this talk micro frontend expert Dr. Florian Rappl will introduce both architectural styles and show how they can be combined to create outstanding web experiences that scale not only in development, but also in usage.age.
Dr. Florian Rappl is Solution Architect for IoT and distributed web applications at smapiot. His main interest lies in the creation of innovative architectures that scale in development and usage. He won several prizes for his work and is a Microsoft MVP in the area of development technologies. He regularly blogs and writes articles for popular magazines and websites in the web development space.
Microfrontends are a popular approach to building distributed web architectures, and there’s no shortage of frameworks and strategies. But these common approaches require all-in commitment to specific frameworks, which makes a smooth migration of legacy platforms very difficult. In this talk, we will take a look at a frameworkless approach based on native browser technology such as custom elements and the CustomEvent API, and we will learn how this can be used to gradually modernise a legacy web application. We will still use advanced tools for building and delivering our solutions, but we avoid any shared runtime dependencies, which allows for maximum portability of our components. In addition, we will see how we can ensure encapsulation, testability and evolvability through clearly defined interface contracts. As infrastructure, we can use containers or serverless cloud technology, deployed via CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
Alex is a Senior Solutions Architect at AWS with 20 years of IT experience in expert and leadership roles. He is a strong advocate of agile and DevOps practices, and he enjoys seeing serverless, cloud-native and event-driven architectures deployed at scale. He has delivered large transformation projects and successfully developed own and customers’ businesses. He is a trained and experienced speaker, having presented at a wide range of events.
In an era of rapidly evolving technology, software systems must overcome challenges like hardware failures, network outages, cyberattacks, and traffic spikes. Learn the art of building resilient software systems in our upcoming session. We'll explore key strategies such as implementing redundancy and failover mechanisms, using load balancing for traffic management, and adopting microservices architecture for enhanced system robustness. Discover how robust disaster recovery plans, stringent security practices, efficient monitoring systems, and continuous testing can fortify software against various adversities. Join us to master crafting fault-tolerant software that thrives in turbulent environments.
Software engineer and technology passionate - I enjoy building and delivering quality while trying to have fun as much as possible. The desire to get out of my comfort zone led me to change the context from full-stack, frontend, and API design to technical leadership and architecture in the last few years. Whenever I find I have something to say I prepare a presentation or write an article.
