Hands-On MCP: Building AI-Connected Tools
Patrick Schnell
Patrick Schnell, AI-enabler and CEO at schnell.digital GmbH
World Congress 2025
This hands-on workshop teaches you how to connect external tools and data sources to AI assistants using the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
You’ll learn why MCP is so useful as a standardized approach for giving AI systems to access real-world functionality (information, actions) through tools.
The session covers configuring MCP servers in development environments and in Claude Desktop. You’ll integrate MCP servers into agent frameworks to interact with databases, APIs, and other systems.
We’ll examine the internal structure of MCP servers, including resource, tool definitions, and prompt templates. The workshop discusses relevant protocol specifications aspects. By the end, you’ll have built your own MCP server using MCP and integrated it into an AI agent workflow.
