Job description

The CDC Foundation seeks a full-time Data Manager to provide scientific, analytical, and technical assistance to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in Tanzania, Malawi and Nigeria. The Data Manager will work closely with the Principal Technical Advisor, Systems Programmer, and others to clean and analyze datasets to determine baseline and changes in the availability, access and quality of maternal health services in Tanzania, Malawi and Nigeria. The Data Manager will participate in field activities in Tanzania, Malawi and Nigeria as well as serve as a resource on data quality, completeness, and analysis. The Data Manager position is an interdisciplinary role that brings together strong technical and analytical skills, with knowledge of public health. The combined skills and experience are essential to ensure the strategic objectives of the project are met., 1. Perform quantitative data analyses using appropriate software and methods, accepted and verifiable procedures, and identify limitations of analysis methods.

  1. Provide informatics support to data collection for survey and surveillance activities in the area of maternal and neonatal mortality.
  2. Collaborate with epidemiologists and statisticians to develop training curricula, data visualizations, joint analyses and publications.
  3. Analyze complex data sets using advanced statistical software (SAS, SPSS, SUDAAN) for scientific studies and surveys.
  4. Evaluate data quality and data completeness and develop data validation protocols.
  5. Participate in the overall development of complex application programs, including writing detailed design, programming and code development, quality assurance and documentation and testing for a variety of software applications.
  6. Provide written documentation of data cleaning and analysis procedures to be included in reports and replicated for subsequent analyses.
  7. Provide tabulations, summaries, calculation of indicators and interpretation of results.
  8. Other duties and projects as assigned., Location: This position will work a hybrid schedule based in Atlanta, GA. Relocation expenses are not provided. 30-40% international travel required. Average travel duration of 3-4 weeks per trip.

Requirements

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a background in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health or closely related discipline is required.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of data management and analysis experience.
  3. Advanced proficiency in SAS, proficiency in CSPro preferred
  4. Advanced proficiency in data processing, management, and analysis of large, complex datasets.
  5. Advanced coding and syntax writing skills.
  6. Familiarity with key maternal and newborn health indicators.
  7. Demonstrates a high degree of initiative and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities, able to communicate effectively in a positive and professional manner and able to prioritize activities when under tight deadlines.
  8. Sound judgment and maturity exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels both internally and externally.

  9. Ability to travel internationally 30-40% of the time, at times on short notice, with varied cadence, and an average trip duration of 3-4 weeks.
