Job description

This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Office of Forensic Sciences, Digital Evidence Laboratory.

The purpose of this position is to serve as a Digital Forensic Group Supervisor providing first level supervision to a group of digital forensic examiners., As a SUPERVISORY IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (DIGITAL EVIDENCE), your typical work assignments may include:

  • Supervises general laboratory activities and analytical work of a group of forensic, clerical or technical employees in the examination and interpretation of digital evidence and related items.
  • Provides technical and administrative guidance and direction concerning examinations and analyses of evidence; develops and ensures implementation of and compliance with safety policies and procedures for the laboratory.
  • Reviews and evaluates laboratory workloads; develops and implements action plans to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of services; and coordinates laboratory support of field investigations.
  • Performs duties in support of the laboratory quality management system, such as conducting audits, investigating instances of non-conformance, and implementing corrective or preventive action.
  • Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.
  • Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills, qualifications, and mission requirements.
  • Explains performance expectations to employees and provides regular feedback on strengths and weaknesses., * Incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Technical Proficiency?, This position is being filled under a Direct Hire Authority. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance., Basic Qualification Requirements: For all IT positions, individuals must have IT-related proficiency level for all four of the competencies listed below:

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientiously attends to detail.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individual who uses or receives the services or products that your work or unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; and is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues; and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In addition to the above basic requirement, applicants applying for the GS-14 must also meet one of the following requirements:

A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-13 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) advising employees on policies and procedures, interpreting and applying applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines with regard to forensic examination of digital evidence; 2) establishing and adjusting priorities and work schedules to ensure timely completion of assignments; 3) supporting quality management activities through audits, non-conformance investigations, and corrective or preventive actions in the support of a laboratory quality management system; 4) coordinating developing, exchanging and presenting digital evidence and examination results; OR 5) providing technical and administrative guidance and direction concerning examinations, analyses of evidence and organizational directives., Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education., Top Secret Position sensitivity and risk Critical-Sensitive (CS)/High Risk Jobs require a background check and some require a security clearance.
