Job description

Test Engineer Manchester / Cheltenham (Hybrid & Client Site Travel) About the Role We’re looking for a talented Test Engineer to join a collaborative, cross-functional engineering team working on high-impact, complex systems. You’ll play a key role in ensuring quality is built into every stage of delivery-helping shape testing strategies, building automation frameworks, and uncovering issues before they reach production. This is an organisation that values curiosity, strong fundamentals, and problem-solving ability over ticking every box. If you’re passionate about quality and eager to learn, you’ll be supported every step of the way. What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing and executing manual and automated tests across complex systems
  • Developing and enhancing test automation frameworks
  • Performing exploratory and risk-based testing to identify edge cases
  • Collaborating closely with engineers to improve testability and overall quality
  • Driving continuous improvement across tools, frameworks, and testing practices

Skills & Experience You don’t need to have everything listed-what matters most is a solid foundation and a willingness to grow. Technical Experience (any of these)

  • Programming or scripting (Java, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript)
  • Testing modern web applications (Angular, React, Vue)
  • Automation tools such as Cypress, Cucumber, Robot Framework
  • Experience building or improving test frameworks
  • Strong understanding of exploratory and risk-based testing

Desirable (nice to have)

  • Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or Azure
  • Familiarity with modern tech stacks (e.g. MERN, Elasticsearch, Neo4J)

Requirements

  • UK Citizen with 10 years UK residency
  • Must hold high-level UK security clearance (active)
  • Comfortable travelling to Manchester or Cheltenham sites
