Job description
- Serve as the technical owner for enterprise EDI platforms supporting high-volume, business-critical integrations.
- Lead design, development, and delivery of EDI solutions across mainframe, distributed, and cloud environments.
- Drive modernization of COBOL-based EDI systems while maintaining production stability.
- Architect and implement EDI integrations using X12 transactions, Sterling B2B Integrator, and IBM ITX.
- Integrate EDI workflows with APIs and modern cloud-native services.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues across EDI, databases, and integrations.
- Establish engineering best practices, CI/CD, observability, and secure integration patterns.
- Mentor engineers and raise overall EDI engineering maturity., * Own EDI platforms that directly enable enterprise-scale supply chain operations.
- Lead real modernization-not just maintenance-of complex, high-impact systems.
- Work at the intersection of legacy reliability and modern cloud innovation.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of enterprise software engineering experience with deep EDI expertise.
- Strong hands-on experience with EDI X12, Sterling B2B Integrator, and IBM ITX.
- Proven experience with COBOL, DB2, and hybrid EDI architectures.
- Experience modernizing legacy EDI platforms and integrating with cloud and API-based systems.
- Strong understanding of secure file transfer, encryption, certificates, and key management.
- Ability to lead technically, influence architecture decisions, and partner cross-functionally.
- This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.

McLane is searching for a Lead Engineer, Software to lead the modernization of mission-critical EDI platforms that power a large-scale digital supply chain. As a Lead Software Engineer - EDI, you’ll combine deep hands-on engineering with technical leadership-owning complex EDI ecosystems while driving reliability, scalability, and cloud-forward transformation.
This is a hybrid position which will require the candidate to report and work from the office at least three days a week. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute radius from Austin or Temple, TX.
