Job description

We’re looking for a senior, hands-on engineer who can build independently today and lead a team tomorrow.

This role starts as a solo, high-ownership position, where you will take full responsibility for critical parts of our system. Within 6-12 months, you are expected to hire, lead, and scale a team of 4-10 engineers.

You’ll work closely with leadership in Israel while operating autonomously in the US.

About the Product

Althimis is building a real-time, large-scale training 3D platform and simulation combining:

  • MMO-scale collaboration
  • Physical simulations
  • AI-driven systems
  • Browser-based (WebGL) real-time environments

Our focus is on performance, scalability, and real-world simulation accuracy, targeting enterprise, defense, and advanced training use cases.

What You’ll Do

Phase 1 - Hands-On (Initial Months)

  • Own and develop core systems end-to-end (Unity + backend)
  • Build real-time, scalable systems supporting thousands of users
  • Work across:
  • Unity (client, simulation, rendering)
  • Backend services (APIs, real-time communication, infra)
  • Solve performance, networking, and system design challenges

Phase 2 - Leadership (Within 12 Months)

  • Build and lead a team of 4-10 engineers
  • Define architecture, standards, and processes
  • Own planning, delivery, and technical direction
  • Mentor engineers while staying technically involved

Requirements

Core Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong C# expertise
  • Deep experience with Unity (real-time / multiplayer / simulation)
  • Proven experience building production backend systems
  • Strong system design and architecture skills
  • Experience working across frontend + backend systems

Leadership Experience

  • Prior experience leading teams (at least 4 engineers)
  • Still hands-on recently (not purely managerial)
  • Experience owning projects end-to-end
  • Ability to scale into a team of 4-10 within a year

Technical Strength

  • Experience with:
  • Real-time systems (WebSockets, WebRTC, multiplayer frameworks)
  • Scalable backend architecture (APIs, async systems, caching)
  • Observability (logs, metrics, tracing)
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Clean architecture (DI, modular systems)
  • Performance optimization (CPU, GPU, memory, bandwidth)

Math & Simulation

  • Strong mathematical thinking
  • Experience or familiarity with:
  • Physical simulations
  • Real-time systems requiring numerical accuracy
  • Ability to reason about performance and correctness from first principles

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Photon, SignalR, or similar
  • Experience building physical Simulation
  • Experience creating training / learning applications
  • Background in AI systems or data pipelines
  • Experience in defense / enterprise / regulated environments
  • Knowledge in front end REACT
  • Experience building MMO-scale systems, If you’re a hands-on senior engineer ready to step into leadership and build something ambitious from the ground up - we’d love to talk.
