Job description

BEPC is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of advanced automated control systems for material handling projects. This role will serve as the primary owner of electrical and PLC control systems while leading engineering efforts from design through commissioning., * Lead and mentor Controls Engineers on assigned projects.

  • Design, engineer, and execute automated control system projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Develop system Descriptions of Operation (DOO), test plans, and user guides.
  • Design PLC and VFD control systems for automated material handling equipment.
  • Create electrical control panel designs using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Define and specify electrical components, sensors, PLC hardware, and VFDs.
  • Program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLC systems using Studio 5000.
  • Perform PLC code reviews and support software quality initiatives.
  • Complete in-house testing, system emulation, and commissioning activities.
  • Develop and execute detailed commissioning plans at customer sites.
  • Interface directly with customers throughout project execution.
  • Attend project meetings, design reviews, and turnover meetings.
  • Monitor project scope, schedules, budgets, and issue resolution.
  • Prepare daily field reports documenting project progress, issues, and next steps.
  • Support startup activities and field troubleshooting as needed.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have extensive PLC programming experience, strong electrical engineering knowledge, and the ability to lead project teams while supporting customer installations across the United States. This position requires up to 80% domestic travel with occasional nights and weekends., * Minimum of 7 years of PLC programming and industrial automation experience.

  • Proficiency with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000.
  • Experience designing industrial automation and control systems.
  • AutoCAD Electrical experience.
  • Ability to lead and mentor engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of UL, NEC, and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Experience with industrial safety control systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks, including Profibus, EtherNet/IP, and ControlNet.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel up to 80% domestically and work nights and weekends as project needs require.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Schneider/Modicon PLC platforms.
  • Experience with automated material handling systems.
  • Commissioning and field startup experience.
  • Experience developing system documentation and functional test plans.
  • International travel experience within Canada or Mexico is a plus., Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit an up-to-date resume highlighting PLC programming, controls engineering, industrial automation, AutoCAD Electrical, commissioning, and project leadership experience.
