Job description

  • Safely operate tractor-trailers, including manual transmission vehicles, across regional and long-haul routes while maintaining compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
  • Load and unload freight using proper manual handling techniques, ensuring cargo integrity and safety during transit
  • Manage refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and specialized equipment like dump trucks or roll-off trucks as needed for various cargo types including hazardous materials or dangerous goods
  • Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, planning optimal paths for timely deliveries while adhering to route driving protocols
  • Handle logistics cargo with precision-securing loads properly on flatbeds or tankers and verifying cargo documentation in accordance with hazardous materials regulations
  • Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, inspections, deliveries, and incidents in compliance with FMCSA regulations
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery schedules, route changes, or safety concerns; report any vehicle maintenance issues promptly

Requirements

  • Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record; experience operating manual transmission trucks preferred
  • TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card for access to secure maritime facilities
  • Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and freight handling in various environments such as refrigerated trailers or flatbeds
  • Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, hazardous materials regulations, and dangerous goods handling procedures
  • Ability to load & unload cargo safely using manual handling techniques; forklift certification is a plus for certain operations
  • Experience with GPS navigation systems and route planning software for efficient delivery scheduling
  • Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling procedures including freight security and proper load distribution
