Job description

The Development Manager at Comfort Food Community (CFC) plays a pivotal role in executing and overseeing fundraising initiatives, grant writing and external relations. In partnership with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and the Development Committee, this role is instrumental in increasing contributed revenue, and cultivating and stewarding meaningful partnerships to help provide sustainable financial support. Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

· Strategic Fundraising

o Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the Executive Director and Development Committee.

o Secure funding from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other charitable sources.

o Monitor fundraising performance and adjust strategies to meet revenue goals.

· Donor Relations

o Cultivate, steward, and strengthen relationships with existing donors.

o Identify, engage, and solicit new individual and organizational supporters.

o Develop strategies to increase donor retention, engagement, and giving levels.

· Grant Management

o Lead the grant-seeking process, including prospect research, proposal development, submission, and reporting.

o Manage relationships with foundation and corporate funders.

o Maintain grant calendars and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

· Community Engagement

o Collaborate with the Communications & Volunteer Coordinator to increase community awareness and engagement.

o Represent CFC through public presentations, community partnerships, and collaborative initiatives.

o Support efforts that elevate the organization’s visibility and impact.

· Event Planning and Coordination

o Partner with the Development Committee to plan, execute, and evaluate fundraising and community events.

o Ensure events align with organizational goals and provide meaningful donor engagement opportunities.

o Coordinate event logistics, sponsorships, and volunteer support as needed.

· Team Collaboration

o Work closely with staff, leadership, and volunteers to integrate development activities across programs.

o Support a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.

o Foster productive relationships at all levels and encourage shared ownership of fundraising success.

· Database and Donor Information Management

o In partnership with the Office & Development Coordinator, maintain the accuracy and integrity of donor records.

o Generate and analyze reports to inform fundraising strategy and track progress toward goals.

o Oversee gift processing and donor acknowledgment procedures.

· Other Responsibilities

o Provide cross-programmatic support as needed.

o Participate as a member of the leadership team.

o Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required

· Minimum of two years of nonprofit fundraising or development experience.

· Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

· Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and donor database systems.

· Experience managing multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude.

Preferred

· Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

· Experience implementing a comprehensive development program that includes individual giving, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and fundraising events.

· Experience with donor database management, gift processing, reporting, and donor relationship management.

Work Environment

· Office hours are generally Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with some flexibility on start and end times.

· Occasional weekend and evening work as needed for events and donor meetings.

· Must have own transportation, valid driver’s license, and insurance.
