Job description

AWS is looking for hands-on Data Center Operations Technicians to join our growing infrastructure team in Texas. You’ll be working directly on the hardware that powers the world’s largest cloud - diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining servers and networking equipment in a mission-critical 24/7 environment.

This is NOT a desk job. You’ll be on the data center floor - racking servers, running cables, swapping components, and troubleshooting hardware failures in real-time.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform break-fix on servers, storage devices, and network switches (replace DIMMs, drives, PSUs, NICs, motherboards)
  • Rack and stack server and networking equipment in high-density environments
  • Install and manage structured cabling - fiber optic and copper
  • Run diagnostics, respond to hardware alerts, and troubleshoot failures using established SOPs and runbooks
  • Monitor systems and respond to incidents to maintain uptime SLAs
  • Identify, track, and escalate trending issues impacting server fleet health
  • Work tickets in incident management systems and document technical problems with appropriate detail
  • Collaborate with remote engineering teams to resolve complex escalations
  • Support firmware updates, BIOS configuration, and system validation

Requirements

  • 1+ year of hands-on experience in data center operations, IT hardware support, or field service (server/network focused)
  • Experience with server hardware troubleshooting and component replacement (rack servers, storage, networking devices)
  • Familiarity with structured cabling (fiber and copper)
  • Comfort working rotating shifts in a 24/7 mission-critical environment
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, Ethernet, cabling, connectivity)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined/elevated spaces
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred (L4 Level):

  • 18+ months of data center or IT infrastructure experience
  • Server-level Linux knowledge (command line, log analysis, diagnostics)
  • Experience with out-of-band management tools (IPMI, iDRAC, iLO, BMC)
  • Understanding of RAID configurations, SAS/SATA, firmware management
  • Basic scripting skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Experience mentoring or training junior technicians
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex, non-standard hardware failures without documentation
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, or equivalent certifications
