Job description
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Workday Financials to own the design, configuration, governance, and ongoing evolution of our Workday Financial Management environment. This is a senior individual contributor and leadership role that serves as the primary subject matter expert for Workday Financials across the organization, partnering closely with Finance, Accounting, FP&A, and IT to deliver scalable, best-practice solutions that support business growth and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on Workday Financials configuration expertise combined with the strategic mindset to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence senior stakeholders, and drive platform maturity.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Ownership & Strategy
Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert and system owner for Workday Financial Management
Define and execute the Workday Financials roadmap, aligning platform capabilities with organizational priorities
Lead the evaluation, planning, and delivery of new module deployments, feature enhancements, and Workday release updates (bi-annual)
Establish and enforce system governance standards, configuration best practices, and change management processes
Configuration & Administration
Own end-to-end configuration across core Workday Financials modules including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Procurement, Expenses, Projects, and Banking & Settlement
Manage business process framework design, security role administration, and tenant maintenance
Lead testing, validation, and deployment of system changes including regression testing and UAT coordination
Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, serving as the escalation point for Workday Financials support
Finance Partnership
Partner with Accounting, FP&A, and Finance Operations to translate business requirements into effective Workday solutions
Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring data integrity and accuracy of financial reporting
Design and maintain financial reports, dashboards, composite reports, and calculated fields to meet business reporting needs
Serve as a key stakeholder in ERP-related audit requests and internal control reviews
Integrations & Data
Oversee integrations between Workday Financials and third-party systems including banking, procurement, tax, and payroll platforms
Partner with IT and integration teams on EIB, Core Connectors, and Studio integrations
Ensure data governance standards are applied across the Workday financial data model
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
Lead and mentor a small team of Workday Financials analysts or administrators
Drive cross-functional collaboration with HR/HRIS, IT, and business unit finance teams
Communicate platform strategy, project status, and system changes to executive leadership
Manage relationships with Workday and third-party implementation partners
Requirements
8+ years of Workday Financials experience, including hands-on configuration and system administration
Deep expertise across multiple Workday Financials modules: General Ledger, AP, AR, Procurement, and Expenses at minimum
Demonstrated experience leading Workday Financials implementations, module deployments, or major enhancement projects
Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles and financial close processes
Experience managing integrations between Workday and external systems
Proven ability to translate complex finance business requirements into scalable Workday configurations
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills - comfortable presenting to CFO and executive leadership
Preferred Qualifications
Workday Financials Pro certification (one or more modules strongly preferred)
Experience with Workday Adaptive Planning, Prism Analytics, or Workday Extend
Prior experience leading or supporting a full Workday Financials implementation
Background in public accounting or corporate accounting/finance (CPA a plus)
Experience in a multi-entity, multi-currency, or regulated industry environment
Familiarity with Workday Studio, BIRT reporting, and advanced calculated fields
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or related field required
