Job description

This is an opportunity to take on a highly influential leadership role supporting some of the UK’s most secure and complex technology environments. We’re looking for a technically strong Team Lead. You’ll guide a high-performing DevOps team, shape technical direction, and work alongside customers and delivery partners to ensure critical services remain secure, resilient and continually improving. If you’re someone who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, mentoring engineers and driving operational excellence, then this could be for you

The Role

You’ll lead a multidisciplinary DevOps team responsible for delivering and supporting secure services within a high-assurance environment. Working closely with technical specialists, delivery managers and customer stakeholders, you’ll provide technical leadership across live services and project delivery, helping to prioritise work, manage risk and ensure solutions are delivered to the highest standards. This role offers the opportunity to influence technical strategy while remaining close to the technology, making key architectural decisions and supporting the successful delivery of business-critical systems.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and mentor a skilled DevOps delivery team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
  • Provide technical leadership across projects and live services.
  • Define and maintain the technical architecture, ensuring solutions remain secure, scalable and supportable.
  • Oversee incident investigation, problem resolution and change delivery.
  • Work closely with Service Delivery Managers to ensure services are delivered effectively and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with customers and third-party suppliers to balance priorities, manage risk and improve service quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement across tooling, processes and engineering practices.
  • Maintain technical documentation and system knowledge to support long-term service resilience.

Requirements

You’ll be an experienced technical leader who enjoys supporting others while remaining actively involved in solving technical challenges.

  • Experience leading technical or DevOps teams within complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong knowledge of systems architecture and modern infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps methodologies and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working across Linux/Unix environments, on-premise infrastructure and cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge of containerisation, microservices and Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
