The Externship Coordinator’s (EC) primary focus is to provide direction to students who are approaching their externship requirement, develop and preserve relationships with externship sites, place externs at relevant sites, track the progress of externships, and provide support and solutions to student and site issues that may arise. Success requires a team approach and collaboration within a peer group of Deans, Program Chairs, Student Services, Career Services, and institution administration. The EC assists in all experiential learning areas.
The EC arranges externships for all students in all programs with an externship requirement and provides training, guidance, and support to externship preceptors. The EC facilitates excellent communication between site and instructor, provides externship orientation, assists with completing all necessary paperwork prior to the start of externships, and tracks students throughout their externship.
This position reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer, with a dotted line to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and engages in day-to-day interactions with campus directors, deans, program chairs, faculty, academic advisors, and executive leadership.
This is a salaried, exempt position that qualifies for all benefits offered by the University. Employees in this position are not eligible for overtime.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain relationships with externship sites sufficient in number to meet the needs of the campus’ student extern population.
- Coordinate timely placement of externs in facilities that meet the educational requirements of the respective program’s externship course
- Maintain externship files for both sites and students using the University’s CRM (Salesforce), SIS (Anthology Student), and LMS (Canvas)
- Assist in administering contracts, insurance certificates, and other documents for externship
- Maximize and track externship-to-hire rates for the campus and its sites
- Work with externship instructors, program chairs, and deans to ensure the best educational experience for American National University students while on externshi
- Assist students with preparation and revision of externship documents (resumes, cover letters, applications, immunizations, drug tests, etc.)
- Serve as liaison between student, externship instructor, and the externship site
- Develop and maintain relationships with externship sites for the purposes of externship leads
- Request, gather, and interpret feedback on performance and satisfaction levels from sites and students via surveys
- Maintain the externship site database (SharePoint)
- Facilitate Practicum Track and Experiential Track courses daily
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Microsoft Office experience required: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint
- Proven organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional social interaction skills
- Team-oriented approach
- Professional in all aspects of the position, including dress and appearance, demeanor, and attitude
- Consistently displays the highest levels of integrity
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, perform well under pressure, meet deadlines, and work a flexible schedule
- Previous experience a plus
- Must meet the qualifications of a faculty member in Radiologic Technology (see below), Educational Background
- Must have graduated from an accredited radiography program
- Must hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree.
Certification
- Must possess current ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in radiography, or an equivalent credential (e.g., unrestricted state license)
Experience
- Must demonstrate two years of full-time clinical experience in diagnostic radiography
- Must have one year of experience as an instructor in a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation
Skills and Responsibilities
- Must evidence experience in instruction, student evaluation, and academic advising
- Responsible for the supervision and training of clinical instructors and preceptors
- Acts as the primary point of communication between the clinical site(s) and the program
- Responsible for scheduling students for all clinical assignments to ensure alignment with curriculum sequencing, as well as equitable and educationally valid experiences, * Bachelor’s (Required)
Experience:
- full-time clinical in diagnostic radiography: 2 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- ARRT Certification (or equivalent credential) (Required)
