Job description

We are seeking motivated, detail-oriented IT Field Technicians to join a large-scale, high-profile network modernization project. You will serve as the on-site “eyes and ears” for a major infrastructure upgrade, supporting the physical deployment and installation of over 1,700 next-generation Cisco Catalyst switches across 10 campus locations.

This is a physical, hands-on deployment role. While a background with Cisco hardware is a major plus, deep configuration knowledge is not required. All software provisioning and logical troubleshooting will be handled by our centralized remote Managed Services team, allowing you to focus on flawless physical execution and connectivity., * Rack and Stack: Unbox, mount, and secure enterprise-grade switches into data center racks and network closets.

  • Decommissioning: Efficiently remove legacy hardware and prepare racks for new installations.
  • Patching & Cable Management: Migrate patch cables and ensure clean, organized cable management with precise labeling.
  • Hardware Verification: Perform physical status checks (power/LED indicators) and assist the remote team during equipment activation.
  • Logistics: Safely transport equipment between campus facilities as dictated by the deployment schedule., * Per Diem: For candidates residing outside of the Pittsburgh area, a per diem can be offered to assist with expenses.
  • Hands-On Experience: Work with cutting-edge technology, including Cisco Wi-Fi 7 and Multigigabit enterprise architecture.
  • Supportive Environment: You will be backed by a dedicated, centralized engineering team for every step of the deployment.

Requirements

  • Experience: Proven background in IT field services, data center deployments, or structured cabling (Smart Hands).
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with enterprise network hardware; comfortable distinguishing between fiber/copper patch cables and basic port layouts.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain active (bending, kneeling, standing) for extended periods in network closet environments.
  • Availability: URGENT. Must be available to start the week of July 13, 2026, and commit to the full night shift schedule (7 PM - 4 AM) through August 21, 2026.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation to travel between multiple campus sites within the Pittsburgh, PA area.
  • Communication: Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate seamlessly with remote engineers via phone/chat.
