Job description

You will join our internal development team working on SPEX, the proprietary system that runs day-to-day operations for every department at Focus Camera. You will work directly under our SPEX Lead Developer, who will train you on the system and mentor you as you grow into projects of your own. This is a hands-on role. The pages and tools you build are used every day by 150+ people across purchasing, warehouse, ecommerce, customer service, and our stores. You will see the impact of your work immediately. This role is a great fit for a recent graduate or early-career developer who is eager to learn, wants mentorship from an experienced lead developer, and is excited to build software that people across the business use every day., * Build and maintain internal tools and pages within SPEX using PHP, Laravel, MySQL, & Vue.js.

  • Learn the structure and logic of existing pages so you can troubleshoot bugs and improve legacy functionality
  • Assist with assigned projects from requirements through delivery, taking on increasing ownership as you gain experience.
  • Work with teams across the company to understand what they need, not just what they asked for
  • Assist with reports, data pulls, and backend services that support internal workflows
  • Write clean, documented code and keep system designs and workflows documented so they are repeatable
  • Flag problems early and communicate clearly on project status

Requirements

Required

  • 0-2 years of hands-on development experience (internships, academic, freelance, or personal projects welcome)
  • Basic knowledge of PHP and MySQL
  • Familiarity with JavaScript and Git
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions, take feedback, and own your work
  • Able to work on-site in Brooklyn, NY 4 days a week and Friday Remote.
  • Authorized to work in the US without current or future sponsorship

Preferred

  • Experience with Laravel
  • Experience with Vue.js or a similar frontend framework
  • Exposure to reporting, ETL, or data warehousing concepts, If you’re a recent graduate or early-career developer looking to grow fast, build real-world software, and learn from an experienced lead, we want to hear from you.
