Job description
The IT Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation, security, and continuous improvement of all technology across the business. This is a hands-on role for an experienced manager who is equally comfortable providing technical support for networking and security issues, oversight of outsourced IT services, cybersecurity partners, and technology vendors, and presenting a roadmap to executive leadership.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the IT Manager will partner closely with leadership across all business units and locations to ensure technology systems effectively support manufacturing operations, sales, engineering, and corporate functions while maintaining a secure, reliable, and scalable IT environment.
This position requires a proactive leader who can balance strategic planning with day-to-day technical support and operational execution., IT Operations & Infrastructure
- Oversee all IT operations across Hill & Smith, Inc. and National Signal locations nationwide
- Manage and maintain company networks, servers, firewalls, VPNs, cloud systems, backups, and telecommunications systems
- Ensure uptime, reliability, and performance of all business-critical systems and applications
- Monitor and maintain cybersecurity measures, endpoint protection, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans
- Manage user access, permissions, and security protocols across all systems and platforms
- Lead hardware and software lifecycle management, including procurement, deployment, upgrades, and replacements
- Oversee delivery and performance of outsourced IT services and managed service providers
- Act as primary escalation point for critical technology incidents involving external providers
Vendor & Service Provider Management
- Manage relationships with managed service providers, telecommunications vendors, software providers, cloud partners, and cybersecurity firms
- Monitor vendor performance against SLAs and KPIs
- Conduct service reviews and hold providers accountable for agreed outcome
Systems & Business Applications
- Support and optimize ERP, HRIS, CRM, manufacturing, and other operational systems utilized throughout the organization
- Partner with department leaders to identify technology needs and implement process improvements
- Assist with system integrations, reporting capabilities, automation initiatives, and digital transformation projects
- Oversee software licensing compliance and vendor management
Leadership & Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all IT-related matters across both organizations
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to internal IT personnel and/or external managed service providers
- Establish IT policies, procedures, and best practices aligned with company objectives and security standards
- Manage IT support requests and ensure timely resolution of technical issues for employees across multiple locations
- Maintain strong relationships with third-party vendors, consultants, and service providers
Strategic Planning
- Develop and execute short- and long-term IT strategies aligned with organizational goals
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve operational efficiency, security, and scalability
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost management for IT operations (including managed services) and projects
- Support acquisitions, integrations, facility expansions, and organizational growth initiatives as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive IT leadership experience, preferably within manufacturing or multi-site operations
- Strong knowledge of:
- Network infrastructure and administration
- Cybersecurity best practices
- Microsoft 365 administration
- Cloud-based systems and virtualization
- ERP and business systems support
- Backup and disaster recovery solutions
- IT vendor and project management
- Experience supporting manufacturing environments and operational technologies preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues while also driving strategic initiatives
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience supporting multi-location organizations
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and compliance best practices
- Experience with IT budgeting and capital planning
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong customer service orientation and collaborative mindset
- Demonstrated experience managing outsourced IT functions, managed service providers, and technology vendors
- Experience developing and monitoring SLAs and governance processes
Work Environment & Travel:
- Primarily office-based with regular interaction across manufacturing and operational environments
- Occasional travel to company facilities may be required
