Job description
The Fuel Systems Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and production release of fuel system components, including fuel tanks and delivery modules, within the fuel systems area. The role involves technical communication and collaboration with suppliers and internal teams to ensure product quality and efficiency improvements., * Design, develop, and release fuel system components such as fuel tanks and fuel/urea delivery modules.
- Support quality improvements, value optimization, weight reduction, and efficiency initiatives.
- Communicate technical product status to management and collaborate with internal and external groups, including suppliers and vehicle program teams.
- Interact with suppliers and work closely with vehicle program teams, labs, CAE engineers, and manufacturing plants.
- Support product validation activities, including DVP&R processes.
Requirements
- 25 years of relevant engineering experience (preferred range discussed was 23+ years)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent
- Experience as a Design Release Engineer, Product Engineer, or Component Engineer (not primarily CAD/design-focused roles)
- Experience with fuel systems, including fuel tanks, delivery modules, or urea/DEF tank systems
- Understanding of APQP processes
- Experience supporting product validation activities, such as DVP&R
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with suppliers, manufacturing, validation labs, program teams, and quality organizations
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct fuel tank design/release experience
- Fuel delivery module (FDM) experience
- Injection molding and/or blow molding experience
- DFMEA experience
- Design for Six Sigma certification or training
- GD&T knowledge
- NX, Teamcenter, or similar PLM/CAD system experience
- Virtual simulation experience
- Fastener and torque application knowledge
- OEM automotive fuel systems experience
