Job description

Position Summary: We are seeking a proactive, tech-savvy, and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Substitute Computer Support Specialist. This role provides critical, hands-on support to the Technology Department during peak operational times-such as the kickoff of a new school year or major fall rollouts-to ensure all district hardware, software, and classroom systems run seamlessly for students and staff., In this role, you will assist with the deployment, maintenance, and daily troubleshooting of district technology. Your tasks will focus on keeping our digital learning environment running smoothly and may include:

  • Device Imaging & Configuration: Assist with configuring, formatting, and “imaging” student and staff devices (Chromebooks, iPads, and laptops) with the necessary district software, updates, and security profiles.
  • Classroom Tech Setup & Rollout: Deliver and set up technology in classrooms and offices. This includes connecting desktop computers, configuring docking stations, routing cables neatly, and testing interactive whiteboards, displays, or projectors.
  • Tier-1 Technical Support: Provide basic troubleshooting for software installations, operating system updates, network connectivity issues, and peripheral hardware (printers, scanners, document cameras).
  • Inventory & Asset Management: Unbox, catalog, and apply asset tags to hardware. Update the district’s inventory management system to ensure accurate tracking of all technology assets.
  • Hardware Maintenance & Diagnostics: Perform basic diagnostic checks on devices, cleaning hardware (screens, keyboards), replacing minor worn components, and identifying units that require advanced vendor repair.
  • Storage & Workspace Organization: Assist in organizing technology storage areas, server closets, and preparing decommissioned, legacy equipment for secure recycling or disposal.

Enrollment in or completion of an IT, Computer Science, or related technical program is highly desirable but not required.

  • Technical Aptitude: Basic knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems (Windows, ChromeOS, macOS, iOS), and common office software (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365).
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods, as this role involves moving boxes of equipment and setting up devices under desks and on tech carts.
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to follow technical checklists accurately.
  • Communication: A friendly, customer-service-oriented attitude with the ability to collaborate effectively with fellow tech team members, teachers, and district staff.
