Staff Infrastructure Engineer

We are supporting a leading European software organisation with a strong engineering culture and a long-standing reputation for stability, technical depth, and product excellence in the IT monitoring space. The business is scaling its internal technology function to ensure its infrastructure continues to support sustained growth, high availability, and operational efficiency.

This is a key senior hire within the Internal IT team, acting as the highest technical authority responsible for shaping and evolving the organisation’s core infrastructure landscape. What You Will Do

• Own and operate the core Linux and Proxmox-based on-prem infrastructure
• Act as the senior technical authority within the internal IT function
• Lead technical direction across virtualisation, server, storage, and platform services
• Mentor and support engineers, raising overall technical capability
• Drive automation and Infrastructure-as-Code to reduce operational overhead
• Define infrastructure standards, patterns, and operational best practices
• Design and evolve target-state architecture for internal systems
• Work closely with security on IAM, segmentation, and compliance requirements
• Support limited hybrid/cloud usage (AWS / Azure / GCP used in non-core workloads)

What We’re Looking For

This role requires a hands-on infrastructure engineer who has progressed into technical leadership and remains close to the systems.

• Strong Linux administration experience (Ubuntu preferred)
• Deep experience with virtualisation platforms (Proxmox strongly preferred; VMware acceptable)
• Strong background in on-prem / datacentre environments
• Experience operating as a technical lead or senior infrastructure engineer
• A practical, engineering-led mindset focused on automation and improvement
• The ability to influence technical direction without formal line management responsibility
