Job description

  • Install, route, terminate, test, label, and document structured network cabling.

  • Install and mount IP security cameras, brackets, cabling, power supplies, and related equipment.

  • Configure and troubleshoot network-connected security cameras.

  • Mount televisions, digital displays, interactive panels, monitors, and related equipment.

  • Install classroom and conference-room projectors, projection screens, speakers, and audiovisual components.

  • Install and maintain electronic door-access-control systems.

  • Install card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, electric strikes, magnetic locks, and associated cabling.

  • Diagnose and repair problems involving structured cabling, cameras, audiovisual equipment, access-control systems, and network-connected devices.

  • Test completed installations to verify proper operation.

  • Maintain accurate cable labels, equipment records, diagrams, and installation documentation.

  • Coordinate work with IT staff, facilities personnel, contractors, vendors, faculty, staff, and other campus users.

  • Support end users in the ticket system using RMM tools.

  • Assist with additional IT, networking, systems, database, and technology projects as needed.

Requirements

Brevard College is seeking a dependable, technology support specialist to install, maintain, and troubleshoot structured cabling, security cameras, audiovisual equipment, electronic door-access systems, and all technology assets on the Brevard College network. This is a hands-on position supporting technology throughout a multi-building campus environment. The ideal candidate takes pride in clean, professional installations, works well independently and as part of a team., * Layer 3 networking, routing, switching, and VLANs

  • Enterprise firewall administration

  • Proxmox virtualization

  • Windows Server administration

  • Active Directory

  • Microsoft Entra ID

  • Google Workspace administration

  • VoIP telephone systems

  • Database administration

  • Network monitoring and troubleshooting

  • Wireless network infrastructure

  • Server, storage, and backup systems

Previous experience in these areas is helpful but is not required. A willingness to learn, ask questions, troubleshoot problems, and take on new responsibilities is essential., * Experience with structured cabling, low-voltage systems, audiovisual installation, security systems, construction, maintenance, or a related technical field.

  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, cable testers, fish tapes, ladders, and installation hardware.

  • Basic understanding of computer networking, Power over Ethernet, IP addressing, and network-connected devices.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.

  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar systems and technologies., * Experience installing and supporting IP-based surveillance-camera systems.

  • Experience with electronic access-control systems.

  • Experience installing commercial displays, projectors, classroom technology, and audiovisual systems.

  • Experience supporting end-users in a help desk environment.

  • Familiarity with network switches, VLANs, PoE, routing, and basic device configuration.

  • Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization, firewalls, Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID, VoIP, or database systems., * Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.

  • Ability to climb ladders and work from lifts or elevated platforms.

  • Ability to work above ceilings, in equipment rooms, and in confined or difficult-to-access areas.

  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach overhead, and remain on your feet for extended periods.

  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and installation equipment.

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
