Job description

We are seeking a bearing engineer to join our Applications/Design Engineering team at Lutco Inc. In this role, you will be responsible for designs and modifications of bearing components and assemblies to meet our customer requirements. Additionally, this role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring manufacturing processes to minimize production costs while ensuring high quality products that meets tolerancing standards and specifications.

You will interact with assembly, machining, and press room personnel to ensure work instructions are understood and/or set up troubleshooting. Furthermore, there will be a close team approach when designing formed or stamped bearing components with other Lutco engineers and toolmakers and when new tools are required., * Provide Applications Engineering support to the Sales department through design layouts, sales drawings, and various bearing / assembly databases.

  • Produce internal components and vendor drawings.
  • Investigate and analyze new materials, new specifications, new standards and engineering practices.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, estimates, designs, reviews and updates.
  • Review customer requirements and build-to-print designs for manufacturability
  • Develop cost models and support business cases for new opportunities
  • Support sales with technical expertise, presentations, and customer issue resolution
  • Assist manufacturing on production-related engineering issues
  • Contribute to new product development and intellectual property growth
  • Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) of components and bearings, and partner with stakeholders to design solutions for customers
  • Develop and implement production and tooling methodologies and process for bearing assemblies and components
  • Develop and release manufacturing plans, design controls, detailed work instructions and engineering change notices.
  • Resolve escalated technical issues, prioritizing impact to performance, cost or schedule.
  • Participate in Kaizen events, and implement LEAN principles and technologies
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to learn and share best practices. Maintains an understanding of industry standards and trends to improve processes.
  • Designs progressive and compound dies needed for the manufacturing of bearing components; i.e. jackets, ball cases, and races.
  • Leads engineering projects partnering with employees at all levels to ensure deadlines and objectives are met.
  • Collaborate with QA in defining control plans and inspection methods.

Requirements

  • Relevant technical and computer skills (AutoCAD/SolidWorks, MS Access, and Excel).
  • Proficient at blueprint reading, engineering drawing interpretation and tolerancing.
  • Highly self-motivated with demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Case hardening heat treat understanding
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with employees at all levels of the company and external clients; written and/or verbally.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Mechanical ability and engineering skills needed for design components, tooling, and overall solutions., * Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in mechanical design, drafting, or manufacturing methods preferred
  • Assembly, machining, and metal stamping manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Metal stamping and machining knowledge.
