Job description

Join the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Information Technology Division as a contract AI/ML Engineer and play a pivotal role in deploying enterprise-level artificial intelligence solutions. You’ll support critical initiatives that directly enhance organizational efficiency, public-facing services, and compliance with technology policies. This is a unique opportunity for hands-on experience with impactful projects, rapid skill advancement, and the chance to shape the AI landscape within a major state agency. Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy components of an enterprise search solution to optimize information retrieval across DPS systems.
  • Assist in configuring, rolling out, and documenting the Darwin AI inventory and monitoring system.
  • Implement, test, and support AI agents tailored to diverse business unit needs.
  • Develop technical controls, documentation, and processes to support robust AI governance and compliance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet accelerated project delivery timelines.
  • Ensure all solutions adhere to cybersecurity, privacy, and statewide technology policies.

Requirements

1+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise search tools development and deployment.

  • Demonstrated expertise in AI system configuration, rollout, and technical documentation.
  • Practical experience supporting AI agent implementation and testing.
  • Experience developing compliance-focused technical controls and governance documentation.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills. Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience with public sector or large enterprise AI/ML projects.
  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks or state-level technology policy compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in enterprise search technologies.
  • Experience with inventory and monitoring systems like Darwin.
