Job description
Join a high-impact team as a senior Java Developer, leading enterprise-level projects for the State of Texas. This is an opportunity to drive innovation, mentor team members, and shape critical systems supporting statewide operations. You’ll work in a collaborative, Agile environment with a focus on large-scale application development, modernization, and performance optimization. Responsibilities
- Oversee coding, testing, debugging, and documentation to meet rigorous technical and functional requirements
- Prepare and review flowcharts, diagrams, and end-user documentation to ensure smooth production runs
- Lead research, analysis, and planning for new projects, system modifications, and proposals
- Evaluate database schemas, write and execute SQL code, and optimize application performance
- Troubleshoot application issues by analyzing logs, system messages, and resource utilization
- Develop programming standards, procedures, and detailed technical documentation
- Implement backup and restore processes to maintain business continuity
- Coordinate, assign, and track project tasks across development teams

Requirements
15+ years: Java development in large-scale, enterprise environments
- 10+ years: SQL database design, development, and performance tuning
- 8+ years: Application support and development within team settings
-
5+ years: Linux administration and scripting Preferred Skills
- Atlassian tool suite proficiency, especially JIRA
- Agile methodology expertise
- Experience with State of Texas applications, specifically Texas Department of Public Safety systems
- Transitioning legacy mainframe applications to Java/SQL platforms
