Job description

The most successful manufacturing organisations don’t simply react to equipment failures - they build reliability into every asset, every maintenance activity, and every engineering decision. By combining data-driven insights, proactive maintenance strategies, and continuous improvement, they create operations that are safer, more efficient, and more resilient. The result is greater equipment availability, reduced downtime, improved operational performance, and engineering teams that focus on preventing problems before they occur.

As a Reliability Engineer, you’ll play a key role in improving the reliability, availability, and maintainability of our engineering assets. Working closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Compliance, and Health & Safety teams, you’ll support the development of world-class reliability strategies, optimise maintenance programmes, and use engineering data to drive continuous improvement across our manufacturing operations.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll combine your technical expertise, analytical mindset, and passion for engineering improvement to help maximise asset performance, reduce equipment downtime, and strengthen long-term operational reliability.

In this role you will:

  • Support the development and implementation of reliability engineering strategies that improve asset performance, equipment availability, and operational efficiency across the business

  • Promote a proactive culture of health, safety, and engineering excellence by working collaboratively with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Compliance, and Health & Safety teams

  • Monitor equipment reliability data and performance trends, identifying chronic equipment issues and implementing sustainable engineering solutions to improve reliability and lifecycle performance

  • Support the development and optimisation of preventative maintenance programmes while helping implement predictive maintenance techniques, including condition monitoring and vibration analysis

  • Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations, applying structured problem-solving methodologies such as RCA and FMEA to identify causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence

  • Analyse maintenance and reliability data from CMMS and asset management systems, using key performance indicators such as MTBF and MTTR to identify opportunities for continuous improvement

  • Support the implementation of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) methodologies and engineering improvement initiatives that reduce downtime, improve maintenance effectiveness, and optimise asset performance

  • Work closely with Maintenance and Compliance teams to improve maintenance practices, optimise work planning and scheduling, and strengthen engineering governance

  • Develop and maintain critical asset and critical spare parts strategies, ensuring parts availability supports operational resilience while improving inventory effectiveness

  • Provide guidance and support to engineering and maintenance colleagues, promoting reliability best practice and helping develop engineering capability across the wider business

  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects by sharing lessons learned, promoting best practice, and supporting the ongoing development of engineering reliability standards across the organisation, You’ll play an important role in strengthening the reliability and performance of our engineering assets, helping reduce downtime, improve maintenance effectiveness, and increase operational efficiency across our manufacturing operations. By supporting proactive maintenance strategies, analysing engineering performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives, you’ll help create more reliable equipment, safer working environments, and greater long-term value for the business.

Working closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Compliance, and Health & Safety teams, your contribution will help build a culture where reliability, proactive maintenance, and engineering excellence are embedded into every aspect of our operations.

Requirements

  • You have demonstrable experience within a reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, or operational engineering environment, ideally across complex manufacturing or multi-site operations

  • You possess a strong understanding of reliability engineering principles, preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, and asset lifecycle management

  • You have experience analysing engineering and maintenance data to identify trends, improve equipment performance, and drive informed engineering decisions

  • You are confident applying structured problem-solving methodologies, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and continuous improvement techniques

  • You understand CMMS and asset management systems and can effectively use engineering performance data to improve reliability and maintenance outcomes

  • You are an organised and analytical engineer with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining close attention to detail

  • You communicate confidently with colleagues across Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Compliance, building strong relationships and promoting a collaborative ‘One Team’ approach

  • You are passionate about continuous improvement and enjoy identifying practical engineering solutions that improve safety, reliability, and operational performance

  • You hold, or are working towards, Engineering Professional Registration, with an HNC in Engineering (or equivalent) preferred. Engineering ISO Internal Auditor certification and a Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH would be highly advantageous
