Job description

Maintains bus routes for regular and special education students; coordinates bus schedules, calendars, and other transportation requirements as needed., * Assists in developing school bus routes. Checks the length of time required to perform each route.

  • Assesses student needs and arrange transportation for students in special or regular education programs and students that are homeless. Notifies parties when changes in services occur.
  • Recommends changes or alterations of routes to supervisors. Informs drivers, schools, and parents of route changes.
  • Enters and maintains bus routes and transportation data utilizing Edulog routing software.
  • Assists with advanced software tasks involving maintenance, utilities, boundary planning, map plots, and geodode updates.
  • Maintains special needs and McKinney-Vento student databases
  • Coordinates with outside school districts to provide transportation services to include transfers of students.
  • Coordinates bus route changes due to emergencies or early release schedules. Informs dispatchers of the need for driver assignment, or changes.
  • Coordinates with the Educational Services Department regarding student transportation needs to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Orders the installation of protection devices such as seatbelts and harnesses for special needs children on school buses.
  • Collects data as needed; student counts, stop times, vehicle mileage.
  • Performs relief bus driver and dispatcher functions as needed.
  • Maintains all records related to items listed above.
  • Ensures all work areas are maintained in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Ensures that equipment is used properly and kept in serviceable condition.
  • Exemplifies the highest standards of Customer Service.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the methods and practices used to create and maintain efficient bus routes.
  • Knowledge of the location of district facilities and bus route system.
  • Ability to be trained and tested on district transportation software.
  • Knowledge of bus equipment and operation.
  • Knowledge of procedures used in a school transportation environment.
  • Ability to read and comply with the standards and procedures in the Arizona Minimum Standards for School Buses and School Bus Drivers.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally when operating a two-way radio and when dealing with others.
  • Skill in understanding and completing oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate a standard or automatic transmission motor vehicle and foot controls with two feet simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies., * High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous related experience using Edulog software preferred
  • 2 years bus driver experience
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Arizona Class B Driver’s License with air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements.
  • Arizona School Bus Driver Certification
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements
