Job description
As a key member of the IT team at Powder, the Systems Administrator supports the stability, security, and performance of the resort’s technology infrastructure. This role provides essential end-user support, manages servers and networks, and ensures the integrity of IT systems through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and documentation. Reporting to the IT Manager, the Systems Administrator plays a critical role in maintaining system reliability, supporting IT projects, and safeguarding the digital environment. This position requires strong technical knowledge across server environments, networks, cloud platforms, and business applications., * Provide technical support for computer hardware, software, and network-related issues.
- Troubleshoot issues, assist with installations, and resolve connectivity and access problems.
- Support and configure business software applications in both on-premises and cloud environments (e.g., Microsoft 365, Google Workspace).
- Collaborate with vendors or internal teams to address complex software issues and application configurations.
System and Network Administration
- Monitor and maintain servers, virtualization systems, networks, and core applications.
- Assist in the configuration, installation, and upkeep of routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Set up, manage, and maintain file, web, and database servers.
- Implement and maintain cloud file sharing systems. Create and maintain Infrastructure monitoring systems
Security and Backup Management
- Assist with implementation of IT security measures and policies under the guidance of the Director of Infrastructure and Security.
- Monitor for security threats and vulnerabilities; support security audits.
- Act as a steward of alerts and incidents on the RMM and Alerts service board, ensuring timely and high-quality resolution.
- Assist in the development and testing of backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and continuity.
System Monitoring and Incident Response
- Serve as a first responder for system alerts during regular business hours.
- Support the on-call management rotation and adoption of proactive alerting strategies.
- Lead the stewardship of monitoring tools.
Documentation and Process Improvement
- Own and maintain documentation related to IT systems, processes, and procedures.
- Promote and support a culture of “do, document, deliver” to ensure best practices are followed across the team.
- Continuously improve documentation for clarity, completeness, and accessibility.
Project and Technical Support
- Support IT leadership in planning and executing IT projects, such as upgrades, migrations, and new deployments.
- Contribute to system enhancements, process improvements, and technology adoption across departments.
Professional Development
- Stay current with emerging technologies, systems, and best practices through continuous learning.
- Pursue relevant certifications, training, and development opportunities to enhance technical skills and support team success.
Requirements
- Proficiency with server and desktop operating systems
- Experience with virtualization technologies
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365, Google Workspace)
- Familiarity with cloud file sharing solutions and application configuration
- Working knowledge of NinjaOne, IT Glue
- Ability to create and enforce IT policies and standard operating procedures
- Scripting and automation skills
- Advanced networking knowledge (routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, etc.)
- Unifi, pfSense
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure
Physical Requirements:
- Full range of body movements
- Reach, push, pull, lift, and carry objects that may be heavy (40+lbs)
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and twisting
- Walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain
- Climb/descend stairs
Working Environment:
Expected to be able to work in a multitude of outside mountain conditions. Periods of prolonged exposure to the elements such as warm and cold temps, heavy winds, intense precipitation, and poor visibility.
