Job description

We’re looking for a talented and passionate Python Backend Software Engineer to join our client’s growing engineering team. You’ll play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, cloud-native applications that power their products and services.

This is primarily a backend engineering role, but we’re looking for someone who enjoys working across the technology stack and is comfortable collaborating with frontend developers when needed. Experience with cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code, and modern software engineering practices is essential.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend services using Python.
  • Build scalable RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Develop and maintain cloud-native applications within AWS.
  • Manage and automate infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver end-to-end features.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making.
  • Review code and mentor other engineers where appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot, optimise, and improve existing applications.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices.

Requirements

  • Experience building REST APIs and backend services.
  • Good understanding of AWS services (such as Lambda, ECS, EC2, S3, RDS, API Gateway, CloudWatch, IAM).
  • Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with Git and collaborative software development.
  • Understanding of modern software engineering principles, testing, and CI/CD.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

We’re particularly interested in candidates who also have experience with one or more of the following:

  • Modern frontend frameworks such as React, Angular or Vue.
  • Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Event-driven architectures and messaging technologies.
  • NoSQL databases.
  • Monitoring and observability tools., You’ll be someone who:
  • Enjoys solving complex technical challenges.
  • Takes ownership of your work and delivers high-quality solutions.
  • Is proactive and eager to learn new technologies.
  • Works well within a collaborative engineering team.
  • Has a passion for building reliable, scalable software.
