Job description
The Hardware Technician is responsible for configuring, programming, and testing telematics and vehicle safety equipment prior to deployment. The role involves preparing hardware devices such as digital video recorders (DVRs), vehicle trackers, radars, cameras, and other telematics components used in commercial fleet safety and monitoring systems.

- Upload firmware, configuration files, and software to hardware units prior to installation.
- Test and verify functionality of programmed devices to ensure they meet operational requirements.
- Configure device settings such as network connectivity, data transmission, sensors, and camera inputs.
- Prepare and label hardware equipment for deployment to field engineers or customers.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware or firmware issues during configuration.
- Maintain accurate records of programmed devices, firmware versions, and configuration profiles.
- Assist with stock preparation, hardware inventory, and logistics where required.
- Work closely with engineering and support teams to ensure systems are configured to customer specifications.
- Support ongoing improvements to device setup procedures and documentation.
Requirements
- Experience working with electronic hardware or telematics equipment.
- Familiarity with configuring embedded devices, firmware updates, or hardware programming.
- Basic understanding of networking (IP configuration, connectivity, SIM devices, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail when configuring and testing hardware.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently.
- Good organisational and documentation skills.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle telematics systems or fleet monitoring equipment (advantageous).
- Proficiency with computers and configuration software tools.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with telematics systems, vehicle CCTV/DVR systems, or fleet safety equipment.
- Knowledge of CANbus systems or vehicle electronics.
- Experience preparing hardware for field installation or deployment.
