Job description

The UNIX Engineer III serves as the senior UNIX/Linux infrastructure engineer responsible for the design, implementation, administration, sustainment, and modernization of enterprise UNIX and Linux environments supporting the Department of the Air Force’s Defensive Cyberspace Operations Weapon Systems. The position ensures secure, resilient, and highly available enterprise infrastructure supporting 24x7 cyber operations while maintaining compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, RMF, and DISA STIGs., * Design, implement, configure, and maintain enterprise UNIX and Linux server environments.

  • Engineer highly available Linux platforms supporting mission-critical applications.
  • Perform operating system deployments, upgrades, migrations, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Integrate UNIX/Linux systems with virtualization, storage, backup, and cloud environments.
  • Administer enterprise Linux and UNIX operating systems across multiple security enclaves.
  • Manage authentication, file systems, storage, and system resources.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, and performance.
  • Support enterprise backup and disaster recovery.
  • Implement DISA STIG-compliant UNIX/Linux configurations.
  • Support RMF, A&A, vulnerability remediation, POA&M activities, and audit readiness
  • Provide Tier III engineering support.
  • Develop automation using Bash, Python, and Ansible.
  • Support Infrastructure-as-Code, Checklist-as-Code, and modernization initiatives.

Requirements

Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field. Additional experience may substitute for education. Certification: CASP+, CCNP Security, CCSP, GCIA, GCED, GCIH, or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) (or equivalent enterprise UNIX/Linux certification). Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of enterprise UNIX/Linux engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting DoD, Federal, or large enterprise environments.
  • Experience with RHEL, Oracle Linux, Bash, Python, Ansible, LVM, NFS, LDAP, SSH, VMware integration, backup/recovery, and performance tuning., * Experience engineering and sustaining UNIX/Linux infrastructure supporting Department of the Air Force DCO weapon systems, DAFIN-SOC environments, or comparable 24x7 mission operations.
  • Advanced expertise with RHEL and Oracle Linux, including high-availability architectures, VMware integration, LVM, NFS, LDAP, SSH, enterprise backup and recovery, and performance optimization.
  • Demonstrated experience automating infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and security compliance using Ansible, Bash, Python, Infrastructure-as-Code, and Checklist-as-Code methodologies.
