Job description

We are seeking a mid to senior level Tableau Engineer for a contract engagement supporting a financial services client. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and delivering production-grade Tableau dashboards that support business, operational, and executive reporting needs. This role requires a balance of strong technical Tableau skills, solid data modeling fundamentals, and the ability to engage directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into well-designed, performant analytics solutions., * Design and develop Tableau dashboards across executive, operational, and analyst-facing use cases, ensuring consistency with established design standards and governance practices.

  • Build and maintain certified Published Data Sources, including data modeling, calculated fields, level-of-detail expressions, parameters, and row-level security configurations.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and data engineering teams to gather requirements, define metrics, and validate dashboard outputs against agreed business definitions.
  • Optimize dashboard and data source performance through extract design, query tuning, and workbook-level performance best practices.
  • Support the client’s Tableau environment (Server and/or Cloud), including content publishing, permissions, scheduled refreshes, and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to data source consolidation, metric standardization, and governance initiatives, helping reduce content sprawl and reinforce a single source of truth.
  • Document dashboards, data sources, and metric definitions to support knowledge transfer and ongoing maintenance.

Requirements

Do you have experience in SQL?, Candidates with prior experience in the financial services industry are strongly preferred, with credit union experience considered a significant advantage given the client’s domain and data landscape., * 5+ years of hands-on Tableau development experience, including Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering production dashboards used by business and executive audiences.
  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to write and tune queries against relational data warehouses.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, including dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, and the trade-offs between live connections and extracts.
  • Experience implementing row-level security and managing permissions in a multi-team Tableau environment.
  • Familiarity with Tableau performance tuning, including extract strategy, calculation optimization, and workbook design considerations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate requirements into well-scoped deliverables.
  • Ability to work independently in a contract capacity, manage priorities across multiple workstreams, and deliver to agreed timelines.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Prior experience delivering Tableau solutions in the financial services industry (banking, wealth, insurance, capital markets).
  • Credit union experience strongly preferred, including familiarity with core banking platforms, member data structures, loan and deposit reporting, and typical credit union KPIs.
  • Experience with common financial services data domains such as member/customer 360, loan portfolio analytics, deposit and funding analytics, branch and channel performance, card and transaction analytics, or regulatory reporting support.
  • Exposure to Tableau Bridge and hybrid architectures where dashboards run in Tableau Cloud against on-premises data sources.
  • Experience with Tableau Content Migration Tool (CMT), Tableau Services Manager (TSM), or the Tableau Server Client (TSC) library.
  • Awareness of financial services data sensitivity considerations, including PII handling, role-based access, and audit/compliance expectations.
  • Tableau certification (Desktop Specialist, Certified Data Analyst, or Server Certified Associate / Consultant).
