Job description

As our Senior API Gateway / Platform Engineer, you will serve as the senior technical resource sustaining a high-availability production gateway while leading the engineering execution of a phased migration from IBM webMethods API Gateway to a next-generation gateway platform (e.g., Kong)., * Platform Operations: Operate, configure, and sustain an enterprise API gateway platform supporting ~255 production APIs and 1B+ monthly transactions at a minimum 99.5% availability.

  • Phased Migration: Lead installation, configuration, and production-readiness for the new enterprise gateway product. Develop API inventory classification, migration wave plans, dual-run operations, and rollback-ready cutover execution.
  • Testing & Validation: Perform functional, connectivity, security, performance, and observability validation for gateway changes and migrated APIs to produce acceptance-ready test evidence.
  • Security & Compliance: Enforce Zero Trust controls, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, mTLS, JWT token validation, rate limiting, and least-privilege access.
  • Documentation & Leadership: Produce runbooks, configuration baselines, and release packages. Mentor junior/automation engineers and conduct senior technical reviews of gateway configuration changes.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of enterprise integration or API platform engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on production experience with enterprise API gateway products.
  • Technical Expertise:

  • Hands-on experience with Kong Enterprise or Kong Konnect implementation/configuration (strongly preferred).
  • Working knowledge of container platforms (OpenShift or Kubernetes) supporting gateway workloads.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD-integrated gateway configuration, configuration-as-code, and environment promotion.
  • Observability tooling experience (AppDynamics, ELK, OpenTelemetry).
  • Clearance & Security:
  • Must possess U.S. work authorization.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Moderate Risk Public Trust (MBI level) background investigation. (Prior federal agency suitability or active federal background investigations are highly desirable).
