Job description
We’re looking for a Chief Engineer to lead operations at our New Albany data center campus. In this highly visible, hands-on leadership role, you’ll oversee critical infrastructure, guide on-site teams, and ensure exceptional uptime and service delivery for our customers.
You’ll partner closely with the Regional Director of Operations and play a central role in driving operational excellence, reliability, and continuous improvement.
This is an onsite position with a strong leadership presence required. Limited travel (~10%) may be needed for regional support and training.
What You’ll DoLead Critical Operations
- Oversee the performance, maintenance, and reliability of all mission-critical systems, including electrical, mechanical, and life safety infrastructure
- Ensure all systems operate within SOPs and EOPs to meet strict uptime requirements
Drive Operational Excellence
- Develop and execute Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and preventative maintenance programs
- Leverage CMMS and monitoring tools to maintain accurate system data and reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, performance, and PUE
Manage Teams & Vendors
- Lead, mentor, and develop on-site technical staff and contractors
- Build strong vendor partnerships and ensure high-quality service delivery
- Maintain clear, proactive communication with customers and stakeholders
Own Incident & Change Management
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Participate in on-call rotation and ensure rapid response to critical events
- Support change management and continuous improvement initiatives
Ensure Compliance & Safety
- Maintain adherence to all safety protocols, codes, and regulatory requirements
- Support documentation efforts including as-built drawings and system updates
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in mission-critical operations (data centers, critical facilities, or similar environments)
- 3+ years in a leadership role within a hyperscale or enterprise data center
- Strong expertise across electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage vendors, and interact with customers
- Experience with CMMS, BMS, and structured ticketing systems (incident/problem/change management)
- Ability to interpret technical documentation (AutoCAD, Visio, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
