Job description

Summary of Functions: The Senior Network Engineer is an advanced technical professional responsible for providing senior-level expertise in the design, implementation, optimization, security, and operational support of the organization’s enterprise network infrastructure. This position leads complex technical initiatives, develops network solutions, establishes engineering standards, and serves as a subject matter expert for critical network technologies. The Senior Network Engineer provides technical leadership to engineering teams, drives infrastructure modernization efforts, and ensures network services are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with organizational objectives.

Strategic Leadership

  • Provides senior-level technical leadership for enterprise network initiatives by developing technology recommendations, contributing to network strategy and roadmaps, evaluating emerging technologies, and aligning network solutions with business requirements and organizational objectives. Provides technical guidance for infrastructure investments, modernization initiatives, and operational improvements while serving as a trusted advisor for complex networking decisions.

Operational Excellence

  • Leads the administration, performance management, and operational support of complex enterprise network environments including WAN, LAN, WLAN, SD-WAN, data center, cloud connectivity, and network security infrastructure. Serves as a senior escalation point for complex incidents, leads troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts, ensures effective change management practices, and drives the reliability, availability, and performance of network services.

Architecture and Design

  • Designs and implements scalable, secure, and highly available network solutions that support enterprise applications, cloud adoption, cybersecurity requirements, and business continuity objectives. Develops technical designs, evaluates architectural options, reviews proposed solutions, and ensures network implementations follow established standards, best practices, and organizational requirements.

Quality and Continuous Improvement

  • Drives improvements in network reliability, operational efficiency, security posture, and service delivery through automation, monitoring enhancements, process optimization, and engineering best practices. Conducts technical reviews, analyzes performance trends, supports post-incident improvements, maintains documentation standards, and identifies opportunities to improve network operations and service quality.

Team Development and Management:

  • Provides Technical mentorship, guidance, and knowledge transfer to network engineers and IT staff. Supports the development of engineering practices, assists with technical training and skill development, promotes collaboration, and contributes to building a highly capable and effective network engineering team.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Collaborates with Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Cloud, Application, Service Desk, project teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to design solutions, resolve technical challenges, and deliver enterprise technology initiatives. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field; or an Associate degree with seven (7) years of progressively responsible network engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and related experience.

Seven (7) or more years of experience designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and supporting enterprise network environments is required. Experience supporting complex Cisco networking environments, wireless infrastructure, firewalls, cloud networking, network security technologies, and enterprise infrastructure projects is required. Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers is preferred.

Knowledge of advanced enterprise network architecture, management, and operations; WAN, LAN, WLAN, SD-WAN, software-defined networking, routing and switching protocols, network segmentation, data center networking, cloud networking architectures, network security principles, Zero Trust concepts, disaster recovery and data protection operations, monitoring and observability platforms, automation concepts, infrastructure-as-code practices, project management methodologies, vendor evaluation processes, and the integration of network services with enterprise applications and technology platforms.

Ability to design, implement, secure, troubleshoot, and optimize complex enterprise network environments; lead technical projects; analyze and resolve highly complex network issues; develop technical standards and documentation; evaluate new technologies and solutions; provide technical guidance and mentorship; communicate effectively with leadership, technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders; manage multiple priorities; and apply strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred certifications include Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP Enterprise), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), AWS Advanced Networking - Specialty, Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate, Aruba Certified Professional/Expert, or equivalent advanced networking certifications.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Work is primarily performed in an office and data center environment and requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and occasionally lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. The position may require work in telecommunications rooms, participation in after-hours maintenance activities, on-call support for critical incidents, disaster recovery exercises, and occasional travel between organizational facilities.
