Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior PHP Developer with active SC (Security Check) Clearance to join a high-profile programme for a confidential UK client. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable web applications using modern PHP technologies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions while adhering to security best practices and government standards.   • Develop and enhance applications using Laravel and CodeIgniter frameworks.
  • Build responsive and interactive user interfaces using JavaScript, jQuery, jQuery UI, and Backbone.js.
  • Develop and consume RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services where required.
  • Design, optimize, and maintain databases using MySQL and MongoDB.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain applications on Apache web servers running on Ubuntu/Linux environments.
  • Implement performance optimization techniques, including caching solutions using Memcached.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following coding standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues while ensuring application stability and performance.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Ensure applications comply with security standards appropriate for SC-cleared environments.

Requirements

  • Active SC (Security Check) Clearance (mandatory).
  • Strong commercial experience developing enterprise applications using PHP.
  • Hands-on experience with Laravel and CodeIgniter frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery, jQuery UI, and Backbone.js.
  • Experience with MySQL and MongoDB database design and optimization.
  • Experience deploying and supporting applications on Apache and Ubuntu/Linux environments.
  • Experience implementing caching mechanisms using Memcached.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API development and integration.
  • Experience with Git and modern version control practices.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within Agile development teams.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working on UK Government or other security-cleared projects.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
  • Familiarity with secure software development practices and OWASP guidelines.
  • Experience maintaining legacy PHP applications while contributing to modernization initiatives.

Pay: From £32,000.00 per year
