Job description

  • Operate always in line with safe working procedures and practices in both the office and the shop. Document and report unsafe conditions or actions to proper supervisor or safety representatives.
  • The Application Engineer will analyze and understand customer manufacturing specifications.
  • Partner with customers in and outside of Detroit and provide advisement through time studies, machine type suggestions, fluid requirements for fixtures/tooling/cutting, turnkey concepts, and time estimates for deliverables.
  • The Application Engineer will drive and assist projects as a customer advocate from sales order and proposals through product installation while keeping within schedule.
  • The Application Engineer will field customer concerns and notify customers of manufacturing issues.
  • Use active listening to understand the customer’s needs and requirements.
  • The Application Engineer will use creative methods and techniques, suggest alterations to processes, equipment used, or other practices as necessary.
  • Train company and customer personnel with different equipment.
  • The Application Engineer will keep a current and up to date knowledge of the innovations and trends of the machine tools industry.
  • Keep a current and up to date knowledge of productivity improvement programs.
  • The Application Engineer must perform customer visits to provide technical support on sold equipment or to identify products the company could provide the customer.
  • The Application Engineer will develop and deliver presentations on processes or products.

Requirements

  • A four year degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or equivalent job experience.
  • Familiarity with cutting tool and machine tool design, the manufacturing process, applications, and sales.
  • Able to read intricate or complicated blueprints.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated history with advanced machining products.
  • Experience with machined goods for a multitude of industrial applications.
  • CAD/CAM experience is necessary, Espirit/Catia preferable.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
  • Excellent writing skills for reports, correspondence, and technical manuals.
  • Comfortable and effective in delivering presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and its component programs.
  • Valid license and passport for travel outside of Detroit, Michigan.
  • Comfortable working on the road >50%.
