Job description

Option 3 Material Handling is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team. This position is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing material handling systems and equipment that improve safety, efficiency, and productivity for our customers. The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver with strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for delivering practical engineering solutions., * Design and develop custom material handling systems, equipment, and mechanical components.

  • Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials using CAD software.
  • Perform engineering calculations, structural analysis, and component selection to ensure safe and reliable system performance.
  • Collaborate with sales, project management, fabrication, and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct site visits to gather measurements, assess customer needs, and support project implementation.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to specify and procure equipment and components.
  • Review manufacturing and assembly processes to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
  • Troubleshoot design and installation issues and provide engineering support during commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, OSHA regulations, and customer specifications.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes and product quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience preferred (material handling, industrial equipment, automation, or manufacturing experience is a plus).
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, machine design, structural concepts, and fabrication methods.
  • Experience preparing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of conveyors, lifting equipment, industrial automation, or warehouse systems is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with conveyor systems, robotics, pallet handling, or warehouse automation.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) and mechanical simulation tools.
  • Understanding of industrial safety standards and machine guarding requirements.
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and operations.
