Job description
We are seeking an experienced Workday HCM & Payroll Consultant with strong expertise in Payroll, Benefits, and Compensation to support the design, configuration, optimization, and ongoing administration of our Workday Human Capital Management platform. The ideal candidate will serve as a subject matter expert across these modules while partnering with HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT to drive efficient, compliant, and scalable Workday solutions.
This position will be a key role in a transition from SAP to Workday HCM. The project has recently moved from configuration to testing., Workday Configuration & Module Expertise
- Configure, maintain, and optimize Workday HCM, with a strong focus on:
- Workday Payroll - pay components, gross-to-net calculations, payroll processing, retro pay, payroll results analysis.
- Benefits - open enrollment setup, plans & packages, eligibility rules, COBRA, ACA, life events, compliance.
- Compensation - compensation plans (salary, bonus, merit), compensation cycles, grades, ranges, eligibility, advanced compensation events.
- Maintain business processes, condition rules, notifications, and security roles across HCM and related modules.
- Troubleshoot functional and configuration issues, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
Implementation, Enhancements & Releases
- Lead or support module implementations, new feature rollouts, and semi-annual Workday releases.
- Conduct unit testing, regression testing, payroll parallel testing, and user acceptance testing.
- Recommend system improvements based on Workday best practices and emerging features.
Data, Reporting & Analytics
- Run, audit, and validate payroll results, benefits enrollment data, and compensation cycle data.
- Develop and maintain Workday reports (Advanced, Matrix, Composite) for Payroll, Benefits, and Compensation.
- Support mass uploads and data loads via EIBs, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Stakeholder Partnership
- Work closely with HR, Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, Finance, and IT to gather requirements and translate them into scalable Workday solutions.
- Provide system guidance for annual processes such as:
- Merit cycles
- Open Enrollment
- Year-end payroll activities
- Deliver training, documentation, and support to HR and Payroll teams.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations, benefits regulations (ACA, HIPAA), and compensation governance.
- Assist with audits, SOX controls, data privacy, and regulatory reporting.
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of hands-on Workday HCM configuration experience.
- Proven, practical experience with Workday Payroll, Benefits, and Compensation modules.
- Strong understanding of HR, compensation strategy, health & welfare benefits, payroll operations, and compliance.
- Experience supporting payroll processing, year-end activities, and benefit enrollment cycles.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and diagnose system issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively across multiple stakeholder groups.
