Applications Lab Manager Job Opening in Detroit, Michigan. An innovative and prominent company in the welding industry seeks a job candidate to serve as Applications Lab Manager in greater Detroit. This Detroit, Michigan job candidate will lead the direction of the lab efforts and serve as the liaison between the lab and departments. Job candidates must have job experience working in a setting with industrial or medical lasers., The Detroit Applications Lab Manager organizes and leads the activity in the applications lab. The Detroit, Michigan Applications Lab Manager is liable for the effectiveness and productivity of the lab work as well as the recommendations and support provided concerning industrial and medical laser applications., * The Applications Lab Manager must lead the project management of the lab activity and keep a log book that tracks the team and equipment used on each project and the time table the project needs to be completed within.

  • Hold teams accountable to the deadlines and communicate any modifications to the time table and delays to all stakeholders.
  • The Applications Lab Manager will serve as a the point of contact for the sales team and customers to assist in delivering accurate quotes, communicating results, and resolving technical issues.
  • Evaluate and approve projects before they are taken up by teams to ensure the project is feasible for the given application.
  • The Applications Lab Manager will lead the team in technical direction when issues arise at the Detroit, Michigan plant.
  • Handle all technical and professional coaching for the Detroit applications lab staff as necessary.
  • The Applications Lab Manager will perform all administrative function such as approving time cards, reviewing employee performance, and all other paper work.
  • Recognize opportunities for on-site visits and training with customers and organize them.
  • Work with engineering, manufacturing, and customer service as necessary as machines are commissioned, installed, or serviced.
  • Partner with the technical innovation and sales teams to develop new products.
  • Some other jobs may be assigned at the Detroit, Michigan site.

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree in engineering, technology, or equivalent work experience working in an applications or engineering job.
  • A minimum of five years job experience working with lasers, optics, or material processing.
  • Minimum of five years job experience working in a lab.
  • Two years of job experience managing or leading a team.
  • A demonstrated history of project management.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% outside of Detroit, Michigan, including overseas.
  • Exceptional knowledge of industrial laser products.
  • Thorough understanding of tooling, tolerancing, and fixturing.
  • Previous job experience working directly with customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally with colleagues and customers.
  • A eagerness to continuously learn about the field of laser technology.
  • A business mind with a focus on leading to specific results.
  • Ability to consider unorthodox and creative solutions to problems.
  • Familiarity with standard computer software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Job experience working with image and vector files and programs.
