Job description
You’ll be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining embedded firmware, working closely with hardware and wider engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance products.
This is a hands-on role covering bare-metal C development, hardware integration, debugging and testing, with involvement across both new and existing products.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop embedded firmware using C.
- Develop and maintain bare-metal applications.
- Support new product development and sustaining engineering projects.
- Develop firmware for embedded hardware and communication interfaces.
- Write unit and integration tests and supporting test scripts.
- Diagnose and resolve firmware and hardware issues.
- Read and interpret hardware schematics and datasheets.
- Evaluate new hardware devices and designs.
- Debug embedded systems using appropriate test equipment.
- Produce technical documentation, including APIs and communication protocols.
- Use task tracking tools to manage development activities.
- Contribute to reliability analysis, risk assessments and FMEA.
Requirements
Are you an experienced Embedded Software Engineer with strong C programming skills and a passion for developing firmware close to hardware?, You’ll ideally have:
- 5+ years’ experience working with embedded systems.
- Strong commercial experience developing bare-metal firmware in C.
- Knowledge of embedded communication protocols such as SPI, RS485 and CAN.
- Experience debugging embedded hardware and firmware using oscilloscopes, logic analysers and multimeters.
- Good understanding of electronics and the ability to read schematics.
- Experience using task tracking and development tools.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
