| Job DescriptionEmbedded Software EngineerBristol | Permanent | Full-Time | 37.5 Hours | Monday-FridayAre you an experienced Embedded Software Engineer with strong C programming skills and a passion for developing firmware close to hardware?We’re working with an established engineering business developing complex, high-reliability technology, and they’re looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join their Bristol-based engineering team.The RoleYou’ll be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining embedded firmware, working closely with hardware and wider engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance products.This is a hands-on role covering bare-metal C development, hardware integration, debugging and testing, with involvement across both new and existing products.Key Responsibilities Design and develop embedded firmware using C. Requirements
for embedded hardware and communication interfaces. Write unit and integration tests and supporting test scripts. Diagnose and resolve firmware and hardware issues. Read and interpret hardware schematics and datasheets. Evaluate new hardware devices and designs. Debug embedded systems using appropriate test equipment. Produce technical documentation, including APIs and communication protocols. Use task tracking tools to manage development activities. Contribute to reliability analysis, risk assessments and FMEA.About YouYou’ll ideally have: 5+ years’ experience working with embedded systems. Strong commercial experience developing bare-metal firmware in C. Knowledge of embedded communication protocols such as SPI, RS485 and CAN. Experience debugging embedded hardware and firmware using oscilloscopes, logic analysers and multimeters. Good understanding of electronics and the ability to read schematics. Experience using task tracking and development tools. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
