Job description

DecisionPoint seeks an API QA / 508 / Test Engineer to perform comprehensive testing of enterprise APIs and integration workflows within a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role executes automated and manual API test suites, validates schemas and contract behavior, performs negative and error-handling tests, and supports regression testing for API version updates and integration changes.

The API QA / 508 / Test Engineer ensures enterprise APIs remain reliable, secure, accessible, and compliant. This role collaborates closely with integration engineers, API developers, cybersecurity personnel, and product teams to validate API readiness across all environments.

This position is fully remote., The API QA / 508 / Test Engineer will: Develop and execute API contract tests, schema validation tests, and endpoint-level test cases.

  • Perform end-to-end integration testing across API workflows, middleware, and consuming applications.

  • Conduct negative testing, error-path validation, boundary conditions, and rate-limit testing.

  • Validate accessibility compliance for API documentation, developer portals, and related interfaces (Section 508/WCAG).

  • Test API version migrations, deprecations, and regression scenarios for updated endpoints.

  • Use API testing tools (Postman, SoapUI, ReadyAPI, or similar) to execute automated and manual test suites.

  • Validate payloads, schema enforcement, authentication behavior, and token flows (OAuth2, SSO).

  • Reproduce and document API defects, integration failures, and unexpected service responses.

  • Maintain API test artifacts, results, regression reports, and traceability documentation.

  • Collaborate with developers, integration engineers, and cybersecurity teams on test outcomes and mitigation actions.

  • Support automated CI/CD integration for API test suites.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and provide testing input during planning and refinements.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Quality Assurance, Testing, or a related technical field.

Experience (Required)

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in QA, API testing, systems testing, or software quality assurance.

  • Experience testing RESTful APIs, integration endpoints, and backend system interactions.

  • Experience performing schema validation, contract testing, and data structure verification.

  • Experience with negative testing, boundary testing, and error-handling validation.

  • Experience supporting regression testing for versioned APIs and integration changes.

Technical Knowledge (Required)

  • Strong knowledge of API testing tools such as Postman, SoapUI, ReadyAPI, or equivalent.

  • Understanding of JSON schemas, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, and contract enforcement.

  • Familiarity with authentication/authorization testing (OAuth2, JWT, SAML).

  • Knowledge of Section 508/WCAG accessibility testing for UI-facing components (developer portals, documentation interfaces).

  • Understanding of CI/CD integration for automated test suites.

Technical Knowledge (Preferred)

  • Experience in a DoD or federal IT environment.

  • Familiarity with performance testing tools and load testing strategies.

  • Experience validating event-driven or asynchronous API patterns.

Certifications

Required:

  • WCAG / Section 508 Accessibility Certification

Preferred:

  • CompTIA Security+

  • ITIL v4 Foundation

  • API testing or QA certifications

Skills

  • Strong analytical, debugging, and error-tracing abilities.

  • Excellent written documentation skills for defect reports and test artifacts.

  • Ability to validate complex integration flows and multi-system interactions.

  • High attention to detail and adherence to quality standards.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across development, cybersecurity, and integration teams.
