You’ll leverage your expertise as part of our highly collaborative team, developing essential platform software (drivers, middleware/IO, and more) and innovative tools for varied spaceflight systems. In this position, you will:

Build cutting-edge platform software for embedded avionics systems, including device drivers, middleware, and applications that power next-generation aerospace technology

Partner closely with hardware and systems engineers to shape software requirements and create seamless integration across multiple hardware platforms

Contribute your voice to architecture and design discussions that influence the future of embedded systems

Drive innovation through performance optimization and implementation of scalable, portable software solutions

Ensure the highest quality by conducting comprehensive testing, debugging, and performance analysis across varied hardware environments

Create lasting impact by developing clear, comprehensive documentation including requirements, design specifications, and API references that benefit the entire team

Act as a mentor through collaborative code reviews and constructive feedback that elevates everyone’s capabilities

- Required for all positions: Blue’s Standard Background Check
- Required for Certain Job Profiles: Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) background check if at any time the role requires one to be on a military installation
- Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing, vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.
- Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
-
3+ years of experience in embedded software development
-
Expert level Proficiency in C/C++ programming
-
Deep hands-on experience with real-time systems, multitasking, and synchronization in embedded environments
-
Experience with software loaders, device drivers, middleware (I/O, BIT), hardware abstraction, and low-level interfaces
-
Knowledge of multiple hardware architectures (ARM, x86) and RTOS/QNX/Yocto Linux embedded environments
-
Experience with CI/CD environments and tools such as Gitlab, Jira, Confluence.

Strong problem-solving skills and collaborative teamwork experience

Excellent communication skills and commitment to collaborative team culture
Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with NASA Core Flight Software (cFE)

Knowledge of communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN) and networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, MQTT)

Experience in safety-critical software development within aerospace, automotive, or similar industries

We’re looking for passionate innovators to join our Strata Common Platform team, where you’ll help shape the next generation of embedded platform software powering Blue Origin’s entire fleet of space vehicles!
