Job description

The IT Security engineer is responsible for the research, design, development and implementation of physical and cyber security software, equipment and systems including web filters, firewalls, security cameras, door access controls, and intrusion alarms. The IT Security engineer also implements and tests physical and cyber security strategies, reports on incidents, provides status reports, and educates employees to raise security awareness., * Develops, revises and implements security strategies, standards and practices.

  • Generates and submits List of Materials (LOM) and monitors the ordering of equipment and materials.
  • Recommends, installs and monitors physical security systems such as security cameras, body cameras, door access controls and intrusion alarms.
  • Recommends, implements and monitors cyber security systems such as firewalls, VPN, proxies, content filters, security awareness training/simulated phishing platforms and other security-related products for the protection of computer systems, networks, and information.
  • Develops technical solutions and security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities as well as conduct vulnerability scans and phishing tests.
  • Provides comprehensive reports including assessment-based findings, outcomes and propositions for system security enhancements.
  • Completes training programs from manufacturers, industry associations, and the school system as required.
  • Responds, investigates and reports on security incident activities including both physical and cyber related security breaches and/or intrusions.
  • Completes electrical wiring, programming, and basic construction.
  • Provides electronic equipment repair service.
  • Provides Level III technical support for users.
  • Maintains professional knowledge and technical skill.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 2 Year Technical Degree or equivalent technical work experience.

  • Experience working with a diverse group of people.

  • Must be able to provide a criminal background check with results that adhere to Bulloch County Board of Education Policy GAK(1), * Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or another related field.
  • Experience conducting site surveys, designing and installing security solutions.
  • Experience with security systems, door access control systems, CCTV systems, switching hardware, and intrusion alarms.
  • Experience with content filters, firewalls and cyber security related tools.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals such as: TCP/IP, addressing, firewalls, routers, VLANs, and VPN.
  • Network+, Security+, CISSP or other related network and security certifications., * Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Interaction with Others: Ability to maintain, on a regular and consistent basis, relationships that are characterized by high expectations, teamwork, and collaboration. Process appropriate paperwork to authorize absences in accordance with school system procedures. Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate manner and to be conscientious about work performance.
